APPEL: The Irony Of Last Night’s Electoral Drama

There’s a great irony in the elections yesterday. Clearly the media made out the elections to be a referendum on Donald Trump and, to no one’s surprise, the voters sent a message that they don’t like Trump. But in fact, the message of the elections in these Blue or mostly Blue states and cities was far more significant.

What we saw wasn’t as much a predictable referendum on Trump, as it was the opening battle of a generational civil war between the old school liberalism of the traditional Democrat Party and the radical philosophy of modern socialists hiding behind the moniker of Democratic Socialists. In round one the socialists won. The questions going forward are will traditional Democrats surrender without a fight and how will the majority of the country, those that aren’t residents of these highly Blue areas, react to an increasingly radical Democratic Party split along a philosophical fault line.

There’s no news in that Democrats don’t like Trump. There is news, though largely suppressed by the liberal media, that a great civil war is raging amongst the Left.

The history to be written is whether the Democratic Party, the party that has been known as the champion of traditional American liberalism, will succumb to a Marxist philosophy that will make it unrecognizable to most Americans outside of a very few deep Blue socialist islands.

Let’s hope that doesn’t happen.

Because if it does, then the cancer will surely spread out of those islands into the sea surrounding them, and the great civil war inside the Democratic Party will become an even greater civil war for America itself.
