Editor’s Note: below is a press release by the Louisiana Freedom Caucus.
The Louisiana Freedom Caucus applauds the release of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ peer-reviewed study, Treatment for Pediatric Gender Dysphoria: Review of Evidence and Best Practices. The report confirms significant and long-term medical harms from puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and surgical procedures performed on minors.
Chairwoman Beryl Amedée said the findings confirm that children were exploited for profit under the guise of medicine.
“This report is the clearest evidence yet that children were put at risk by an ideology masquerading as medicine,” Amedée said. “Puberty blockers and sterilizing hormones were pushed without honest warnings about the dangers. Louisiana families finally have the truth in hand.”
The study echoes the conclusions of President Trump’s Make America Healthy Again Commission and details how major medical organizations failed to disclose the risks associated with these interventions.
“Our caucus will continue to stand between Louisiana children and activist medicine,” Amedée said. “This report proves that caution and common sense were always on the side of protecting kids.”
HHS commissioned a comprehensive, multidisciplinary review of scientific evidence surrounding pediatric gender dysphoria. The American Academy of Pediatrics and the Endocrine Society were invited to participate but declined.
The Louisiana Freedom Caucus calls for accountability within the medical establishment and reaffirms its commitment to protecting children from harmful and irreversible procedures.
