I’ve got a column up at The American Spectator this morning on the utterly idiotic media coverage the local and national media have given to Operation Catahoula Crunch, the joint task force effort to round up criminal illegal aliens and other illegals for purposes of deportation.
You should probably read the whole thing. What you’ll get out of it is that the TV stations and… whatever we’re going to characterize NOLA.com as… have been so utterly off the chain with their dishonest spinning of what ICE and the Border Patrol are doing that none of these people deserve to be called objective journalists ever again.
In fact, what might be an interesting question to ask is just how mobbed up the New Orleans media is these days. The principal targets of Operation Catahoula Crunch are drug cartel thugs, just as they’ve been in all of the ICE/Border Patrol raids across the country. Obviously you catch lots of others in these sweeps – the Associated Press made a big deal over the fact that they reviewed 38 case files of arrestees and found only nine of them with “criminal records,” as though that’s somehow definitive – but the active ingredient ICE and the Border Patrol are aiming to remove from the scene is cartel thugs and disrupting the drug trade.
When it’s very obvious that the Venezuelan Cartel de los Soles, allied with the Mexican cartels and having embedded Tren de Aragua thugs in every American city they could, have been buying up politicians and talking heads on the Left.
That’s an entirely different column which would explain the inexplicable – why media organs in a market which is pretty solidly in favor of immigration enforcement would report that enforcement as some sort of human rights abuse.
But here we’re going to give some properly-due accolades to Julio Rosas from Turning Point USA, who did a ride-along with the commander of Operation Catahoula Crunch, Greg Bovino, as they traveled around the New Orleans area to take down some of the worst of the worst of the illegals. We haven’t seen any of the local media bother to go this deep, and if we didn’t know better we’d wonder why.
