Yesterday I got deluged in DMs and emails from Louisiana conservatives spitting mad that Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser would have cranked open his yaw and spewed out a torrent of invective against the Border Patrol and ICE officials in Louisiana for the Operation Swamp Sweep/Catahoula Crunch deportation campaign.
On Thursday, Republican Louisiana Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser criticized the ongoing federal immigration enforcement operation around New Orleans.
Nungesser told the Associated Press he’s concerned about people with work visas, parents of young children and those in the process of getting their citizenship being detained. Nungesser said although he’s in favor of removing dangerous criminals from the country, he believes there is a better way to ensure that’s the actual outcome.
Nungesser questioned whether immigration agents are trying to reach a quota of 5,000 arrests and “pick up everybody.”
That’s WBRZ’s short version. The AP’s piece with Nungesser’s comments has this gem…
This week, Louisiana Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser, a Republican, became the first state official to break with his party over the operations. He criticized them for undermining the regional economy by triggering labor shortages because even immigrants with valid work permits have stayed home out of fear.
“So I think there needs to be some clarity of what’s the plan,” Nungesser said. “Are they going to take every person, regardless if they got kids, and they’re going to leave the kids behind?”
It isn’t the Border Patrol or ICE’s problem if legal immigrants and guest workers whose papers are in order are in a panic. If Billy Nungesser cares so much about that he ought to be loudly castigating the irresponsible morons in the local media who have done everything they can to gin up panic and outrage over deportation operations which were (1) inevitable and (2) absolutely necessary in the wake of Team Biden’s importation of some 15-20 million (maybe? We don’t even know) illegals and others with no business being in America over the four years they misruled this country.
As a result, southeastern Louisiana, which has never had a Hispanic population of any real note – there are certainly people with Spanish backgrounds, as Louisiana was a Spanish territory for a brief period, but the majority of those are much more Creole than Hispanic at this point – now has the beginnings of one. Nobody here voted for our demographics to be changed from outside our state; this just happened.
And by the way, Swamp Sweep/Catahoula Crunch isn’t the outrage they make it out to be. Even the AP admits, in its piece, that Kenner’s police chief Keith Conley is calling it a “godsend.”
Not to mention the picture nobody in the local media wants you to see. It’s of the operation commander, Border Patrol agent Greg Bovino, at a convenience store in a black part of New Orleans getting mobbed by the neighborhood ladies who are all for ICE coming in and deporting the illegals – because those illegals have a negative effect on the quality of life of poor and working class Americans in New Orleans.
We love this…

Why do you think that is? Well, maybe when these people have to go to the emergency room they’d rather not wait five hours because the place is jammed with illegals whom the hospitals have to treat, and they’re in there for all kinds of non-emergency reasons.
Maybe they’re not happy about the fact that lots of the kids at the public school their kids go to can’t speak English, and that plays havoc with the school’s attempt to educate anybody there. Not to mention lots of those kids come from cultures which are even more barbaric and unpleasant than the ghetto culture they’re trying to raise their own kids out of.
Jefferson Parish is reporting that more than 15 percent of the students in dozens of the public schools there are nowhere to be found amid Swamp Sweep and Catahoula Crunch, which could translate into as much as one in every five or six dollars Jefferson’s taxpayers are pumping into the public schools pay to educate foreigners none of us invited here or gave our permission to live among us.
Maybe they can’t afford car insurance, which is too damned high partly because the more illegals you have among you, the more uninsured drivers you have among you. And if you’ve ever traveled to the Third World you’ll know that driving in a “developing” country is an exercise in near-suicide. Nobody obeys the traffic rules, nobody cares about lanes of traffic. They get in wrecks far more than we do. That’s another way to say these people tend to be awful drivers who don’t have insurance, and that means inflicting mountains of claims on insurers who price insurance accordingly. It doesn’t help that having lots of illegals from Latin America means having lots of gang members and cartel thugs, and one effect of that is they steal cars like there’s no tomorrow and ship them down to Mexico.
Rich people who have private health insurance, kids in private school and don’t even worry about what they’re paying for car insurance? They love illegals. That’s who they hire as landscapers, housekeepers and nannies, and since illegals are captive employees who desperately need a job you can pay them peanuts and treat them like slaves.
They certainly aren’t competing with them for housing like those ladies taking pics with Bovino have to.
Billy Nungesser wants you to think he’s looking out for the working class and poor people of Louisiana. That’s always been his shtick, and it’s always been a joke. Nungesser comes from old money, and as the Lt. Governor he’s doing the bidding of the tourist industry in New Orleans. Which, while we’re all so proud of it, is a mix of old money and corporate interests. Very few of those hotels in New Orleans are truly locally owned; they’re at best franchisees of major international corporate hotel chains.
And all of those restaurants and hotels hire illegals whenever they can get away with it because that’s how they can suppress wages of their low-level employees.
In other words, Nungesser is essentially shilling for feudalism. You might think he’s taking up the cause of the serfs, but he’s really speaking for the lords and ladies.
And why? That’s very simple. Billy Nungesser wants to run for governor in 2027 and he thinks the path to do it – a path he’s been preparing for years – is to be the Democrats’ favorite Republican.
It’s why Nungesser won’t shut up about how Louisiana shouldn’t be going to party primaries. He wants to put that “R” by his name when he runs against Jeff Landry for governor, even though Louisiana’s Republican voters, including lots of people who are pissed off at Landry over various accommodations he himself has made with Democrats like Cleo Fields and John Carmouche, would nominate Landry over Nungesser in a New York second.
The honorable thing for Nungesser to do would be to switch parties and be a Democrat. Or to take his disagreements with Landry, the LAGOP and the Trump administration behind closed doors and voice them privately.
But he won’t do that. He wants to have his cake and eat it too. That political gluttony is why you have Billy Nungesser going off the reservation and amplifying the Democrats’ poor-immigrant narrative, and why I have my email inbox full of people who want to slap him silly.
