The tearing down of America’s sovereign borders and the unraveling of law and order reached a chilling new low this week when an Obama-appointed activist judge ordered the release of four criminal illegal aliens – including murderers and a child sex offender – from ICE custody at Camp 57 right here in Louisiana.
The Department of Homeland Security called the decision a “lawless abomination.” They are absolutely right. And the people of Louisiana have every reason to be outraged.
Let’s be honest about how we got here.
This reckless ruling is not an accident. It is the direct result of years of radical judicial appointments and open-borders ideology pushed by Barack Obama and carried forward under Joe Biden. For more than a decade, the radical Obama-Biden agenda weakened immigration enforcement, empowered activist courts, and chipped away at the rule of law.
Those failed presidents stacked the bench with judges who treat the Constitution like a suggestion and “compassion” like a political weapon, while everyday Americans deal with the consequences.
These were not harmless migrants filing paperwork. These were convicted criminals with final deportation orders. Federal law is clear: when someone is in this country illegally, commits serious crimes, and has been ordered removed, they are to be detained and deported. That authority rests with agencies like U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Yet this judge chose ideology over public safety and overrode enforcement.
That is not justice. That is judicial activism run wild.
This moment proves exactly why our Republican Party has fought so hard for secure borders and constitutional government. Louisiana has been on the front lines of the illegal immigration crisis. We have seen the strain on law enforcement, on schools, on hospitals, and on working families.
Under the strong leadership of Governor Jeff Landry, our State has made one thing crystal clear: we will not be a sanctuary for criminal illegal aliens. Governor Landry has stood firmly for law and order, working with federal partners to ensure violent offenders are detained and removed. He understands a basic truth the Radical Left refuses to accept: public safety comes first.
But when activist judges sabotage enforcement, they undermine both federal law and the hard work being done by states like ours.
The Obama-Biden judicial legacy has created a system where unelected judges feel empowered to override Congress and ignore the safety concerns of the American people. This is the same ideology that gave us catch-and-release policies, fought border wall construction, and opened the floodgates to record crossings. Now we are told to accept the release of convicted criminals as just another court ruling.
Louisiana Republicans say no.
We believe in secure borders. We believe in enforcing the laws on the books. We believe the rights and safety of American citizens come before the political sensitivities of the Radical Left. And we believe judges should interpret the law, not rewrite it to serve a progressive agenda.
This week’s activist ruling is a powerful reminder: elections matter. Judicial appointments matter. Leadership matters.
The path forward is clear. Restore strong border enforcement. Confirm constitutionalist judges who respect the separation of powers. Follow Governor Landry’s lead by putting safety above politics.
America is not a sanctuary for criminals. And under Republican leadership, it never will be.
