BAYHAM: Leftists in an Olympic “Huff” and Golden Goals “Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue”

The Olympics should be a time where politics are put on mute with Red and Blue coming together to cheer the individuals and teams pursuing national athletic excellence on the world stage.

But unfortunately some…rather…far too many people in the United States can’t get past their own party ideology and cable news network of preference to do so, equating the Stars and Stripes with a Trump flag, as if their sense of patriotism is a revolving feeling dictated by changing administrations.
Take the increasingly irrelevant HuffPost that offered a slice of mental health quackery titled “There’s a Name for the Discomfort You’re Feeling Watching the Olympics Right Now” to justify/diagnose the terminal angst that festers in the psyche of the Left every season of the year they’re out of power.
It’s disconcerting that so many people who are only actually affected by 1% of Trump Administration policies- counting lower fuel costs (the brute!) can wake up feeling oppressed every day.
Hint: if The View is still on the air then we aren’t living in a fascist state.
That millions of citizens permit this president’s idiosyncrasies to live rent free in their minds to a point they lack the emotional capacity to be happy for fellow Americans who are demonstrating peak talent and ability is sad.
The enabling HuffPost piece prattled about five year olds being detained (no mention about trafficked adolescent girls freed from their exploiters) and the murder of unarmed civilians (ironically linked to an article about the death of Alex Pretti who was literally armed when he engaged with authorities) as reasons for a seemingly unnatural sense of revulsion in lieu of national pride.
The digital rag’s self-loathing screed went on to reassure that it’s reasonable to feel a sense of guilt, shame, anger, and despair while seeing American flag waving at the Olympics.
Well the US men’s and women’s hockey teams at least took care of the despair part.
To conflate politics with cheering for your national team is ludicrous, though some American olympians were under the mistaken impression they were sent to Congress and not the Dolomite Alps and unwisely used that forum to verbalize their own TDS and then incredulously wonder why they receive blowback barrage of shut up and ski, already.
When the United States defeated the Soviet Union in 1980 during the semifinal hockey game forever celebrated as the Miracle on Ice, did any Republican really feel the victory was somehow cheapened by the fact that Jimmy Carter was president at the time?
Obviously not. People remember the achievement not the administration. At least sane ones do..
When the gold, silver, and bronze medals are tallied for the United States the tote board doesn’t split the teams and individual winners in red or blue columns based upon the voter registrations; they’re all red, white, and blue.
Americans should cheer our representatives on the ice and snow, the coaches, and the olympic team boosters who help cover the expenses, from training to travel. This should be a nonpartisan celebration not a social credit verification exercise.
Too many leftists- and yes I’m singling them out specifically because they seem to only be too giddy to drag our nation to appear fashionable- view themselves as Democrats or Democratic Socialists first and Americans second (or third if they also embrace the truly haughty citizen of the world mentality).
And I can’t help but believe that more than a few would experience a euphoric charge of schadenfreude at the thought that an American loss to Canada in hockey would trigger a Trumpian social media tantrum, something they’d enjoy seeing far more than the American flag raised in the center position in the medal ceremony.
You don’t have to like the president (even if Trump facetiously likes to imply you do) nor do you have to embrace the current national policies to root for your country.
But please curb the hysteria and surreal exaggerations- gross false equivalencies are both a sign of mental illness and are offensive to those who have escaped terror states such as olympic champion figure skater Alysa Liu’s father Arthur, an actual political dissident who fled Communist China after the Tiananmen Square crackdown.
Americans should be proud of the national record number of gold medals earned (12) and having won the second most gold medals and total medals at the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics behind historic Winter Olympic powerhouse Norway. It’s what Norwegians do and we shouldn’t begrudge (or tariff) them for it. Gratulerer.
Admittedly after hearing the Canadians loudly boo the Star Spangled Banner at last year’s 4 Nations Face Off, it exponential enjoyment to see our Women’s and Men’s national hockey teams beat out Canada for the gold twice…in overtime. Truly vengeance was best served not just cold but on ice.
Sooo close eh?
Watching the US Men’s hockey team honor the late NHL star Johnny Gaudreau was classy and then chasing that moment with a post-game locker room celebration singing Toby Keith’s ‘Murican national anthem surely had the now high-flying “Should’ve Been Cowboy” raise his red solo cup in pride.
Congratulations Team America. #FY
