The Endorsements Quickly Pile Up For Blake Miguez In The LA-5 Race

Only a day after Blake Miguez parachuted out of the Louisiana Senate race and into the 5th District Congressional race, he picked up a pair of endorsements which might – might – put him down as the prohibitive favorite even though many voters in the district wonder how he can run for a Baton Rouge-Hammond-Monroe seat when he’s from, essentially, New Iberia.

The first one was from the Club For Growth, which is basically the conservative gold standard of endorsements. CFG brings a nice pot of money and a good deal of prestige.

Washington, D.C. – Club for Growth PAC endorsed State Senator Blake Miguez in Louisiana’s 5th Congressional District. Miguez, a member of the Club for Growth Foundation’s 2025 Fellowship class, is running to replace Rep. Julia Letlow (CFGF Lifetime Rating: 71%), who previously announced she would run for U.S. Senate.

“Blake Miguez is a proven conservative fighter who has championed school freedom, lower taxes, and spending cuts during his time in the Louisiana state legislature,” said Club for Growth PAC President David McIntosh. “Miguez is the perfect candidate to represent Louisiana’s 5th District on Capitol Hill, and Club for Growth PAC is proud to endorse him in the race.”

Club for Growth PAC is affiliated with Club for Growth Action, the nation’s largest conservative Super PAC. In 2024, Club for Growth PAC endorsed candidates won 79% of their elections.

And then came the big one…

President Trump Endorses Blake Miguez for LA-05

BATON ROUGE, LA – President Donald J. Trump issued a resounding endorsement this evening on Truth Social of State Senator Blake Miguez to fill Louisiana’s 5th Congressional District seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.

President Trump’s endorsement:

“It is my Great Honor to endorse MAGA Warrior, Blake Miguez, who is running to represent the tremendous people of Louisiana’s 5th Congressional District.

A Seventh Generation Louisianian, and very popular State Senator, Blake has dedicated his life to serving his Community. As your next Congressman, Blake will work tirelessly to Champion our Amazing Farmers and Ranchers, Grow our Economy, Cut Taxes and Regulations, Promote MADE IN THE U.S.A., Unleash American Energy DOMINANCE, Keep our Border SECURE, Stop Migrant Crime, Ensure LAW AND ORDER, Support our Brave Military, Veterans, and Law Enforcement, Advance Election Integrity, and Protect our always under siege Second Amendment.

Blake Miguez has my Complete and Total Endorsement to be the next Representative from Louisiana’s 5th Congressional District — HE WILL NOT LET YOU DOWN!”

President Trump’s endorsement carries tremendous weight amongst Republican primary voters in Louisiana’s 5th, a district that President Trump carried by more than 36% in his historic 2024 re-election.

President Trump is the greatest president in our nation’s history, and I am truly honored by his endorsement and his confidence in our campaign,” Miguez said. “I’m excited for the opportunity to serve Louisiana, support President Trump, and deliver America First representation to help save our nation.”

Trump taketh away, and he giveth.

Miguez missing the endorsement from the President in the Senate race, which went to Julia Letlow before she’d even gotten into the race, was a crusher for him. He didn’t think he had a path to victory against Bill Cassidy without Trump’s backing, and the plan for Miguez was to make the runoff against the incumbent and then pick up Trump’s endorsement.

But Letlow got it before there was a primary, much less a runoff, and that has been the asteroid which has changed the orbits of all the planets.

And now that Miguez got the Trump endorsement, the question is, what does that do to all these other candidates? Michael Echols, Misti Cordell, Stewart Cathey, Dixon McMakin, Daryl Deshotel and Rick Edmonds now have to figure out a strategy and a market position for how to get enough financing to combat Miguez’ $3.6 million war chest – $2 million of it is his own money he probably won’t spend, but even at $1.6 million, plus what Trump could raise him and what the Club For Growth will throw in, it’s a massive amount of money – and that Trump endorsement.

And if Trump endorses, the question is whether Clay Higgins, Mike Johnson and Steve Scalise follow suit. We don’t have any information that’s coming, and honestly it might be nice if the big national figures let a campaign play out for a little while before they put their thumbs on the scale – there’s been an awful lot of that lately – but with Trump making his endorsement and the natural inclination toward locking up as many safe seats as possible so resources can be poured into the swing districts with the House majority in the balance, don’t be surprised if an effort is made at consolidating this race.

We hope there’s more of a process, though. The one thing about a free-for-all of a race is that it’s a training ground for different activists and political consultants, and you can sometimes see talented folks get into the business through working for campaigns that might not be thought to have much of a chance to win. The 5th District race was definitely looking like that kind of opportunity, but now?

We’ll have to see.
