(Kristin Will) — It seems like every day there is a new headline about companies relocating to Texas. The rest of the country is discovering what Texans have long known: there is no better state to start and grow a business.

As a Texas nurse and mother, that matters to me because the same environment that attracts businesses also supports medical innovation that can improve and save lives. Texas has become a leader in biotechnology research, bringing jobs, investment, and new treatment opportunities to communities across our state.

That’s why I was concerned to see efforts during the last legislative session to ban mRNA technology. As a nurse, I’ve seen the hope that medical breakthroughs can provide to patients and their families. This technology, which advanced significantly under President Trump’s pro-innovation policies, is showing promise in treating cancer and rare diseases. Patients across Texas are already participating in clinical trials that could lead to life-changing treatments.

As lawmakers prepare for the next legislative session, I hope they will continue supporting policies that encourage innovation rather than restrict it. If we drive research and investment elsewhere, Texas patients may lose access to future breakthroughs.

Texas has earned its reputation as a place where innovation thrives. Let’s keep it that way.
