THE TAIL OF 2 MIKES: Elko Volunteers to Decorate LSU’s Football Building

We had a stream of consciousness moment while writing this piece, and we decided to show where that stream took us:

Homophones can be fun.

Whilst LSU’s coach works to keep his players from getting comfortable with all the national praise and that new No. 8 national ranking, two spots above Texas A&M, the folks trying to smear the program while ignoring more questionable activity at other schools keep offering free reasons for it to become even more combustible. The latest is that the rat-poison antidote now comes complimentary from College Station.

Texas A&M coach Mike Elko has offered his contribution Wednesday, comparing LSU’s dispute with the SEC to a son testing his limits until Dad comes home and raises his voice.

“This is a little bit like the son figuring out where the limits are until dad comes home and raises his voice, and then the son goes, ‘I was just kidding, I didn’t mean any of that.’ I think that’s what you’re seeing.

“LSU will be in the SEC. LSU will be fired up when we go to Baton Rouge in a couple weeks. All of those things are going to happen. This is just a little bit of, parenting, going on right now.”

The winner for best comment under the TigerDroppings report?

It encapsulates precisely what so many of us are thinking, which begs the question of if the amount of money being paid to these boys in college football land is indeed a moral good. Elko may change our mind.

Elko’s contribution to the tale is good on several fronts. For one, the Hayride already has one of its quotes of the day for the week of September 21. I was also beginning to worry that Lane Kiffin would run out of ideas for his own signs for the A&M game.

Actually there are probably three or four he could hang after last year’s unforgettable outcome in Tiger Stadium. At this rate, LSU may need an addition to the football building just to accommodate everyone’s contributions.

October 25, 2025. The night that changed everything.

Elko’s analogy is convenient, of course, because once you assign the SEC the role of father and LSU the role of prodigal son, you can skip the pesky business of explaining whether or not the son has a point.

To be fair, Elko didn’t appoint himself Daddy. He assigned that honor to the SEC as a whole, which harkens back to the first or second round of all of this, when you had people arguing about something nobody actually said.

And now that everything’s been memory-holed for the morons, they’re still arguing about it.

For those who would apparently like LSU to settle down and stay in its lane, they certainly keep showing up to the bonfire with gasoline.

None of this dominates anyone in front of you, nor does it win you a football game. LSU still has to prepare, and prepare for the preparation at that, which is precisely why Kiffin should appreciate Elko’s gift.

But first Louisiana Tech, and second…

Ole Miss.

Then we can properly thank Aggie for singlehandedly helping to bring Lane Kiffin to Baton Rouge last season.
