Triangle De Stupide

Politics: an exercise in compromise allegedly for the betterment of the American citizen in general, and the incumbent’s constituency in particular. In fact it is a statement that the only thing accomplished by compromise is the recognition the one sure thing you concede is your personal, and your constituencies’, principles.

Benghazi, sex and Twinkies. A really weird combination unless you accept the explanation I propose: somebody got screwed in all instances. In the first it was American Warriors left behind by an administration never experiencing the terrible march through hell understood by soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines. Real warriors leave NO ONE behind. Real warriors understand what’s right and proper trumps expedient. Real warriors don’t debate; they strategically assess the situation, develop the objective, and ACT! But, real warriors take their commands from fools, cowards and posers on occasion.

The second side of this Triangle de Stupide involves a decorated General Officer in the Army dipping his quill in a tainted inkwell leaving his reputation, service and personal integrity stained. The lies coming from this little soiree into the absurd are, obscuring the field of view into whatever machinations the administration engaged to assure they weren’t adversely affected by scandal on election-day.

The last element concerns the collapse of an American icon in the commercial baking industry. Hostess Brands was forced into liquidation because a strike by bakers refusing to negotiate with the company, pushed the company past “the point of no return”. The union rejected compromise. The union refused to yield on specific and (according to the company) necessary negotiation points allowing the company to move toward solvency and profit.

Richard “Boar Hog” Trumka shifted the attention of the American people from the Union’s involvement in this travesty to the fault of an investment capital operation trying to find a solution to the fiscal and economic woes plaguing the company and pushing over the edge into bankruptcy.

Trumka said this: What’s happening with Hostess Brands is a microcosm of what’s wrong with America, as Bain-style Wall Street vultures make themselves rich by making America poor. Crony capitalism and consistently poor management drove Hostess into the ground, but its workers are paying the price. These workers, who consistently make great products Americans love and have offered multiple concessions, want their company to succeed. They have bravely taken a stand against the corporate race-to-the-bottom. And now they and their communities are suffering the tragedy of a needless layoff. This is wrong. It has to stop. It’s wrecking America.” (Washington Examiner)

The interesting thing is the manner Trumka eludes responsibility for the consistently poor management” his unions demanded with extortionist threats and tactics causing the union members to go on strike in the first place. Trumka rejects his unions’ stance and posture was a major element of why there’s no Hostess Brands as it was once known.

The AFL-CIO is a monster agglomeration of unions holding sway over millions of union members. This is the truest case of the tail wagging the dog. What was once people banding together for protection from workplace dangers and child labor violations has become an animal demanding what it sees as being necessary for their members. The unions initiate the actions and expect the members to act as dogs jumping through hoops.

This column has pointed out where union intransigence led to its members’ devastation. Kaiser Aluminum and National Food Stores in Baton Rouge, Louisiana are two examples of unions causing the loss of thousands of jobs in the ‘80s.

How’s that working for you now union members? Is the need to assure union leadership piggy-backs their salary increases and bonuses for successful extortion (sorry, I meant negotiations) more important than you having a job at all? Will Trumka and his hierarchy share their salaries with you now they’ve cost you your jobs?

Hostess Brands’ responsibility in this matter is recognizable. Trumka needs to shut his fat yap and admit he and his thugs blew it in the past as they drove wages and benefits up while driving profits down.

Boss Hog keeps pushing a product that’s as stale as last year’s cupcakes left on the table.

Thanks for listening.
