The First Amendment says: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. It’s an inviolable right given us by God and no petty politician may take these rights from us; no matter the tactics used to alienate us from the truth.
The political world is a sewer inhabited by many who could be described as vermin, disease and turds. You can determine which noun(s) defines some participants in politics. It’s difficult to maintain a mellow outlook when people lie and cheat their way into positions their not worthy of holding by vilifying and condemning their oppositional colleagues so as to gain the $170+ dollars in salary and the other perks the office may hold.
This writer has never believed in the overwhelming altruism of the elected for their electorate. It just doesn’t happen when you view daily the contempt the Congress shows and their (Congress’) dismissal of the American people. It’s all noted in Obama’s posturing while seeking accreditation and validation through the use of self-serving and biased statistics. These statistics and polls bolster his positions and justify his acts denuding the people of their rights to representation every time he issues an Executive Order.
His insatiable appetite for power and control and he are disgusting in light of the founder’s goals for us and our posterity. His goal of developing a unilaterally controlled America where the system of Checks and Balances created by three separate and equal sides of a national political triangle are displaced, with his idea only he knows what’s best for America is repulsive. We revolted to end the British restrictions and restraints constraining us only to (at this time in our history) find men elected to the presidency demanding greater and greater powers replicating the dominion and “majesty” of the British Crown.
Obama isn’t the only one felt himself greater than any sitting Congress and thus the people that Congress purports to represent; it goes back to John Adams and his movement through and against the people’s First Amendment Rights while trying to enforce the Alien and Sedition Act. It could be said the Obama administration is “a continual tempest of malignant passions and the President is a repulsive pedant, a gross hypocrite and an unprincipled oppressor”. What went around is now coming back.
These words in 1798 caused James Thomas Callender to be indicted for Sedition (actions or words intended to provoke or incite rebellion against government authority). He was found guilty, fined $200 and sentenced to prison for nine months. Matthew Lyon, a Republican Vermont congressman was indicted and imprisoned for accusing Adams and his administration of “ridiculous pomp, foolish adulation and selfish avarice”. This netted him a $1000 fine and four months in jail. The list of trials and convictions while dismissing the First Amendment continue throughout our history to that point.
Thomas Jefferson was the primary opponent to the Alien and Sedition Act and as an opponent went so far as to advocate complete nullification of the act. It was all brought to a close by the pressures exerted against the acts by widespread public ridicule and the pressures exerted by a concerned and involved public sector.
Because it’s recognized the Alien and Sedition Act flies in the face of the Bill of Rights we see presidents not obviously willing to prosecute their detractors. We see there’s no problem with the selective vilification, denigration and defamation of individual journalists and news organizations not kissing the Reprimander in Chief’s buttocks while ruling from his Olympian perch.
Saul Alinsky, in the “Thirteenth Rule” of “Rules for Radicals” (©1971 Random House NY NY) says: “Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it and polarize it.” For Obama this is represented in his vilification, denigration and defamation of the Republican Party and Fox News because that “lip-lock” he feels himself so deserving of isn’t coming from those quarters.
I’m waiting for the indictments next. It does have historical precedence doesn’t it?
