Cedric Richmond Coasts to Victory, Now Faces Cao

State Representative Cedric Richmond ended up with an easy win in the Democratic primary in the 2nd Congressional District, and will now take on Congressman Joseph Cao in the November general election.

Cao was hoping that Richmond would be held below 50% and that a runoff would give Cao more time to raise money while the Democrats battled it out amongst themselves.

At first glance, this would appear to be an unwinnable race for Cao, but (as The Hayride has discussed) the Richmond campaign has the potential to break down in scandal.  A poll done back in May by respected pollster Verne Kennedy for Cao’s campaign showed Cao leading by a 51%-26% margin (though of course that was before Richmond was well-known).

The bottom line:  Richmond should be favored, but this race doesn’t shape up as an easy victory for him, not by a long shot.
