With all 534 precincts reporting unofficial results, Jeff Landry appears to have finished 163 votes shy of an outright majority and victory in the primary. Landry received 49.6 % of the vote, Hunt Downer received 36%, and Kristian Magar received the remaining 14%.
Needless to say, if those numbers hold when the official results are announced, it will be very interesting to see if Hunt Downer wants to continue the fight through a runoff, as he was beaten rather soundly. And since Magar and Landry were both more conservative than Downer, and both Magar and Landry are based in the western part of the district, it seems reasonable to guess that most of Magar’s votes would go to Landry in the runoff.
This will be a very uphill fight for Hunt Downer if he chooses to continue. We’ll see.
