A release today by the Ravi Sangisetty campaign capitalizes on an endorsement from the Alliance For Good Government, whose backing of St. Tammany Parish President Kevin Davis’ Lieutenant Governor campaign drew guffaws from observers throughout South Louisiana last month, to launch into an assault on GOP nominee Jeff Landry in the 3rd District Congressional race.
“I am proud to have the endorsement of the Alliance for Good Government,” Sangisetty said. “I’m running for Congress to fight to make the 3rd District better. We need an open and accountable government that works for South Louisiana.”
Sangisetty for Congress Campaign Manager Julienne Uhlich said Jeff Landry broke federal election laws while he managed Craig Romero’s unsuccessful bid for Congress in 2006.
“As far as good government goes, the contrast between Ravi and Jeff Landry couldn’t be clearer. Jeff Landry is known for running corrupt campaigns,” she said. “He took illegal contributions and failed to document spending. That’s unacceptable and the voters deserve an honest and transparent election.”
Uhlich also raised concerns about Landry’s current Federal Election Commission reports.
“As Major General Hunt Downer pointed out, Jeff Landry is paying thousands of dollars from his campaign account to a company he owns,” Uhlich said. “Given Landry’s history, maybe someone should check his freezer.”
It’s clear Sangisetty, who was recently rejected by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee for media support, is attempting to replicate the failed campaign of Hunt Downer, who rode a series of dubious attacks on Landry to an embarrassing 35 percent showing in the GOP primary. The allegation of Landry’s having paid his company out of campaign accounts has already been debunked; Landry used a staffing arm of his firm to process payroll for his campaign staff in perfect compliance with the law so as not to force campaign employees to go through the hassle of IRS filings. From that innocuous fact pattern comes the link to Democrat William Jefferson’s freezer; a statement which fits perfectly with the intellectual bankruptcy of Louisiana’s Democrat Party.
Sangisetty calls himself a “pro-gun, pro-life conservative Democrat,” which seems laughable in contrast to his record of campaign donations in federal races…

Do “pro-gun, pro-life conservative Democrats” give $1,000 to Barbara Boxer?
It’s clear from the recent polling done in Louisiana – and specifically Magellan Strategies’ work on the David Vitter-Charlie Melancon Senate race – that our state’s voters aren’t interested in hearing about sketchy personal details; what they care about is issues, and particularly issues involving economics and job creation. Four-year old paperwork questions involving someone else’s campaign and provable lies about the handling of payroll aren’t going to cut it.
We thought the LA-3 race would improve after the Landry-Downer battle was over. It’s clear the Sangisetty campaign is committed to continuing a poisonous and stupid campaign in the wake of Downer’s repudiation.
In three weeks it will be over, and the voters of the 3rd District will not miss it.
