It’s good to see the Jindal administration engaging this budget debate with state treasurer John Kennedy, though the two sides do seem to be talking past each other quite a bit regarding Kennedy’s 16-point plan to balance the budget. Paul Rainwater, the Commissioner of Administration, at least talks the talk about cutting government down to size, though it seems like the administration’s gradual approach, while it has produced results, might be coming up short against the current shortfall. Kennedy should get credit for making an effort at significant change, though the Legislative Fiscal Office doesn’t appear to agree with all the savings he’s claiming he can realize with these 16 points.
In any event, WWL’s Garland Robinette had Rainwater and Kennedy on yesterday (separately), and it was an interesting back-and-forth…
