It seems that you’re a racist or a fascist if you think the term “non-voting delegates” means they don’t vote.
The National Journal reports today that the parasites and hacks atop the political establishment in the District of Columbia are engaging in a little political theater today…
VOTING IS NOT FOR EVERYONE. D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray is to appear this morning with Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton at a protest in the Rayburn House Office Building foyer against House Republican leaders’ plans to strip Norton and other delegates and resident commissioners from U.S. territories of their limited right to vote on the House floor. Democrats have allowed Norton and other delegates to vote on some tax and spending amendments as part of the Committee of the Whole, a term that applies to the entire House when it is designated as a committee. But Republicans are set to undo that arrangement, just as they did in 1995.
This business isn’t just an academic exercise, as Hayride readers might recall. Last summer, Rep. Bill Cassidy offered an amendment to the happily-failed CLEAR Act in the House Natural Resources Committee which would have ended the Obama administration’s offshore drilling moratorium. That amendment was defeated in a committee vote, 26-22, with five “non-voting delegates” from the Northern Marianas, Guam, American Samoa, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico voting it down.
With the GOP taking control of the House majority again, the idea of stacking committees full of hack Democrats from places where the denizens don’t pay income tax to Uncle Sam and giving them the right to muck up legislation is gone.
So naturally, the parasites will demonstrate.
Somebody can pass along to Miz Norton this message from us after the performance of her fellow “non-voting delegates” under Nancy Pelosi’s loving gaze last year: Go soak your head, lady.
