Smart Marketing

So Belvedere Vodka decides to put up a web banner on their Twitter and Facebook pages that they think will be edgy.

And promptly goes right over the edge.

The banner…

Yeah, I don’t think this was all that funny either.

This went up Friday, and it came down inside of an hour. The folks out in the world didn’t like it much.

In fact, they had to follow up with this

“We apologize to any of our fans who were offended by our recent tweet. We continue to be an advocate of safe and responsible drinking.”

The responses looked a lot like this…

They’ve been issuing apologies all weekend and praying this goes away.

That’s not really what marketing campaigns are supposed to do. They want to sell vodka, not have to drink their own stash after a hard day of damage control.

And of course it’s a matter of time before the Photoshops making fun of Belvedere start tumblin’ out onto the interwebs.

Hell, I might think of one or two myself to pass along to ’em. Not with rape stuff, y’know. That’s been done already. But if you can do offensive ads to sell vodka – dude. Think of the possibilities.
