Cover Versions: Get Lucky

Y’all are a pretty hip crowd, so of course y’all know that Get Lucky is Daft Punk’s new song. Right?

Sure you do. Everybody knows that.

It’s kinda like an old Earth, Wind and Fire song. 20 years from now this Pharrell Williams cat (who’s also gettin’ famous because he’s on that Robin Thicke blurry lines video with all the nekkid wimmin) is gonna be singin’ it at a casino somewheres, like Earth, Wind and Fire does with all their stuff now.

Anyhoo, we’ve got some great cover versions of that song. Just awesome. But first, here’s the original…

The song’s turned into a big deal this week because Daft Punk was gonna do it on Stephen Colbert’s show. But the suits at MTV Networks, who own MTV and the Comedy Channel where Colbert works, kiboshed the thing. So instead Colbert did something kinda-sorta of a cover.

It’s not a cover. It’s somethin’ else. Worth watchin’ though…

And now here’s the all-time best cover of it you’ll hear. From a totally unexpected source, too.

These guys don’t sing a whole lot better than that dog does, but this is a cool cover anyway. Call it the high-culture version…

Hey, did you know that if you beat on a violin a little you can make it a little like a drum? That’s what this cat does when he’s not makin’ faces at the camera…

This song’s gone worldwide, fa sho. For example, the Aussies know all about it…

Here’s a Russkie acoustic guitar smooth jazz version…

We’ve got a dead pedophile version, too – except the dead pedophile don’t know the words too well…

And we’ve got a live president who knows ’em, but gives up after a minute or so…

The heterosexual guys readin’ this will prolly say this is their favorite version. Schwing!

Then again…maybe not.

Nice shoes, right?

Oh – and then there’s this…

We need a Brit Invasion version of the song, don’t we? Go figure – here’s one. Kinda like a cross between Squeeze and Big Audio Dynamite or sump’n.

And now, for a grand finale – we present the Sons of Pitches.

Yeah, I said the Sons of Pitches. What’d you think I said?
