You’ll need an hour to get through this, but it’s worth the time this weekend. It’s a dialogue between Matt Welch and Nick Gillespie from Reason Magazine on one side, and the Washington Post and ABC News’ George Will on the other. Will, the 72-year old conservative icon and elder statesman of the right wing of Beltway media, says he’s been for some time moving in the direction of libertarianism – largely out of a recognition that government simply cannot solve the problems of society.
Money quote: “I’ve lived in Washington now for 44 years, and that’s a lot of folly to witness up close. Whatever confidence and optimism I felt towards the central government when I got here on January 1, 1970 has pretty much dissipated at the hands of the government.”
