Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel – not President Obama – executed the administration’s final call to proceed with the prisoner exchange of five ranking Taliban detainees for Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, administration officials told Congress today in a classified briefing today.” – ABC News

Authorities arrested more than 47,000 unaccompanied minors between October 2013 and May — a 92 percent increase from the same period a year ago, according to a Border Patrol memo. The surge has overwhelmed border police and complicated debate over sending the children back to their families.” – The Hill

Pope Francis said something so important last week that it will either be widely ignored or widely disparaged.” – Dennis Prager/National Review

“This Sunday, June 8, Pope Francis [allowed] for the first time in history Islamic prayers from the Quoran to be recited at the Vatican. The service is said to be in the cause of Peace in the Middle East (see report below). Members of Judaism will be part of the interfaith gathering as well. This radical initiative is scandalous on at least four counts:” – Catholic Family News

“In fact, it could be that O boxed himself in here by letting Bergdahl’s parents get too close to the process. They were, apparently, being looped in on CENTCOM briefings about their son; they knew enough about the White House’s efforts to bring him home to have blabbed about a possible prisoner swap more than two years ago. If, after all that, Obama decided the price was too steep and walked away from negotiations, Bob Bergdahl would have raised holy hell in the media about how there was a deal for his son on the table and the president wouldn’t take it. The strategic argument for not doing the deal was strong — you don’t send killers back into battle to target your boys when hostilities haven’t ended — but it was no-win politically, so Obama opted for what he thought would be the most easily spinnable option, namely, bringing Bergdahl back on the principle that we leave no man behind. The Taliban we released can, after all, always be droned later if need be:” – Hot Air

“A Colorado baker found guilty of discrimination for refusing to bake a wedding cake for a same-sex couple must go through sensitivity training as part of his penance and rehabilitation. In December of last year, Administrative Law Judge Robert Spencer found Jack Phillips, owner of Masterpiece Cake Shop in the Denver suburb of Lakewood, guilty of discriminating against same-sex couple Dave Mullin and Charlie Craig when he told them in July 2012 that he couldn’t bake them a wedding cake because homosexual behavior conflicted with his Christian beliefs.” – The New American

American cheese makers will no longer be allowed to age or ripen cheese on wooden boards, according to the Food and Drug Administration. The agency recently cited several New York state cheese makers for using the boards in a recent inspection, saying the ‘unsanitary’ practice was a violation of FDA regulations for safe food manufacturing. But New York has allowed the practice—which is common in artisanal cheese production—for years, and asked the FDA for answers.” – National Journal

Republicans should take the president to task for unlawfully enticing thousands of “unaccompanied illegal children” from Latin America to cross the border. Instead, a GOP leader asks for an amnesty deal.” – Investors Business Daily

“Years from now, when they write the books on the crash and burn of the Obama administration, they’re going to pick this time period as a good place to start Part III.  When you live in a world where Andrea Mitchell is smacking back against ridiculous White House spin being done by a Democrat, you know that the situation has shifted.  Maybe all that stuff that the National Journal is saying about how the Democratic party has privately given up on Barack Obama isn’t quite as far-fetched as I thought…” – Moe Lane/RedState
