A NOT-SO-STUPID PARTY? The RNC Just Launched A Campaign To Fire Harry Reid

From a press release we just got…

Today the RNC officially launched its #FireReid campaign, a nationwide effort to spotlight the failures of Harry Reid’s leadership, the dysfunction of Harry Reid’s Senate, and the disaster of the Obama-Reid agenda.

The Republican-led House of Representatives has passed over 290 bills, including 40 jobs bills, that are stuck Harry Reid’s Senate. But Harry Reid won’t put them to a vote, even though they could put Americans back to work.

Under Harry Reid’s my-way-or-the-highway regime, the Senate has forced a disastrous healthcare policy on the American people, tried to kill jobs with onerous regulations, and refused to support commonsense job creation projects like the Keystone Pipeline.

Beginning this week, the RNC will launch robocalls in Alaska, Colorado, Iowa, Louisiana, Michigan, Montana, New Mexico, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Oregon, South Dakota, Virginia, and West Virginia. See the call script below.

The ongoing Fire Reid campaign will use additional tactics, including research briefings, social media, videos, interviews, and infographics to highlight where Harry Reid has failed Americans. His ineffective leadership, ethical issues, support for bad policy, and obedience to billionaire SuperPAC donors like Tom Steyer have hurt our country and the democratic process.

“The only way to stop President Obama’s agenda and to get jobs bills out of Congress is to fire Harry Reid. And the way to fire Harry Reid is to support your Republican Senate candidate. It doesn’t matter who the Democrat candidate is. A vote for a Democrat is a vote for Harry Reid.” said RNC Chairman Reince Priebus. “If you’re frustrated by ObamaCare, ready to build the Keystone pipeline, or just tired of the gridlock in the U.S. Senate, there’s a very simple solution: fire Harry Reid.”

The call script running in targeted Senate states reads as follows:

President Barack Obama and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid have blocked hundreds of bills that would spur job creation. Their partisan agenda has caused our healthcare costs to skyrocket. Their environmentalist billionaire backers won’t let the Keystone pipeline bring affordable energy to our state. A vote for Senator/Congressman/Secretary ____ is just another rubber stamp on their failed agenda. It’s time to Fire Harry Reid. It’s time to vote against Senator/Congressman/Secretary ____.

The calls will target the following:

Mark Begich (AK)
Bruce Braley (IA)
Kay Hagan (NC)
Mary Landrieu (LA)
Jeff Merkley (OR)
Gary Peters (MI)
Jeanne Shaheen (NH)
Natalie Tennant (WV)
Mark Udall (CO)
Tom Udall (NM)
John Walsh (MT)
Mark Warner (VA)
Rick Weiland (SD)

Some of this is boilerplate partisan-speak, but the news here is the RNC has figured out the best way to win elections this fall is to point out how much folks hate the other guy.

And they absolutely hate Harry Reid.

And it isn’t like Reid can fix that. Everybody hates him, because all he does is lie about people. Every time he opens his mouth he gives folks more reasons to hate him.

That’s an asset, if you’re the GOP. It’s probably a bigger asset than many of your candidates.

You might absolutely hate Thad Cochran, if in fact he stays as the GOP nominee in Mississippi. If you do, it might be that the only thing that makes you hold your nose and vote for him is the idea you’re voting to fire Harry Reid.

The RNC can’t do much about whether its candidates are any good, and probably shouldn’t. Those races have to be run by the campaigns in the states. But the RNC can definitely make the point that removing the lying scumbag whose political career was born in a Nevada whorehouse is a major priority if we want to save the country.

Today they’re doing that, so they deserve credit for a nice piece of strategy.
