Sen. David Vitter (R-LA), who is the leading Republican in the state’s gubernatorial race, has raised approximately $4 million with about $3.5 million cash on hand.
Of the money raised, 88 percent of the contributions come from more than 2500 in-state donors, according to Vitter’s press office.
“I’ve been incredibly honored and humbled by the support we’ve been receiving since my announcement,” Vitter said. “Louisiana faces a number of challenges, and I’m excited to meet them head on. This outpouring of support is incredibly encouraging as we tackle these issues with Louisiana common sense.”
Vitter’s $4 million is well above Public Service Commissioner Scott Angelle’s war-chest, which stands at about $1.5 million raised and $1.4 million cash on hand.
The numbers have yet to come in for other gubernatorial candidates like Jay Dardenne and Rep. John Bel Edwards.
