Louisiana Family Forum is looking for Louisiana’s “Longest Married Couple” to share their story of lifetime commitment to marriage and family. LFF will honor the longest married couple and their family at a dessert reception at the Governor’s Mansion with Governor Bobby Jindal and First Lady Supriya Jindal on Friday, February 13th.
“Sharing these stories of life-long faithfulness encourages the next generation to understand happily and married still happens and can still last for a lifetime. We are honored and obligated to communicate these stories of lasting love,” Gene Mills, president of Louisiana Family Forum, said. “Many have been told that marriage can not last, that it is too difficult, but our longest married honorees will demonstrate that marriage can last a lifetime!”
The Top 10 Longest Married Couples will also be honored by receiving an Official Statement of Special Recognition from the Governor’s office and will be entered into the LFF “Marriage Hall of Fame.”
To see the former longest married honorees, please go to: lafamilyforum.org/ 2014marriagehalloffame.
“Marriage is a sacred covenant between a man and a woman,” Mills said. “It’s not every day that you meet a couple married over 70 years, but when you do, there is something special, historical, and wonderful about that relationship!”
LFF congratulates Louisiana’s longest married couple annually during National Marriage Week USA, Feb. 7th-14th, which is an effort “to strengthen individual marriages, reduce divorce, and build a marriage culture.”
In 2013 and 2014, Norman and Norma Burmah of Marksville were honored for a second year in a row as Louisiana’s longest married couple at 83 years. Last year, the Burmahs were identified as the Longest Married Couple in the U.S. Mrs. Burmah passed away in late 2014, with her faithful companion by her side.
Entries for couples married over 70 years must be submitted before February 5, 2015, by sending contact information and anniversary date to [email protected]. For more information, please call the LFF office at 800-606-6470.
