MARDI GRAS MADNESS: Two Dead After Krewe Of Muses Shooting

The New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) has identified just one of the two victims who were shot and later died during the Krewe of Muses parade on St. Charles Avenue across the street from Emeril Lagasse’s “Emeril’s Delmonico,” according to NOLA.com.

21 year-old Peter Dabney of Chalmette was shot and died in surgery after he was shot in the chest, according to the NOPD.

Additionally, a 22 year-old male victim who was shot in the neck during the gunfire spree has also died this morning, but has not been identified by the NOPD yet, according to the Times Picayune.

The shooting happened at the intersection of St. Charles Avenue and Erato Street and occurred around 10 p.m. during the Krewe of Muses parade which runs through St. Charles Avenue.

NOPD has arrested and charged John Hicks, 19 years-old, with two counts of second degree murder after he opened fire after an altercation in a crowd of people.

When NOPD officers chased Hicks in the 1700 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, Hicks reportedly threw the pistol he used into bushes nearby, though police found the gun soon after.
