Ever since posting two stories which outline how the Louisiana media uses the gay community to trash Christianity, there has been a firestorm of discussion.

The issue setting off the discussion is Shreveport Times Reporter Maya Lau’s apparent question to Rep. Mike Johnson (R-Bossier City), who is pushing legislation that would prohibit the state from discriminating against individuals who have differing opinions on the definition of marriage.

Here is where the timeline on our story on this began:

After posting the original story, which analyzed the Louisiana media’s large emphasis and disdain for Christianity, we tweeted to Lau on Twitter, but did not hear an immediate response back.

However, today, Lau tweeted us back with this:

Lau then requested that we discuss the issue on the phone, so we did. And from there, Lau had this to say:

“I don’t know how that miscommunication happened, but I definitely would not quote that question,” Lau said. “We were talking about the issue.”

From there, we began to receive backlash on Twitter about “slandering” Lau on the story.

With all of this, the Hayride has confirmed with a source that Lau did in fact ask Johnson the question. But, here is the real issue that the liberal blogosphere does not want to talk about.

These articles were never about trying to defame Lau’s character. We have chosen to write on this subject to shed light on the fact that some in the Louisiana media use gay issues to ask biased questions or attack Christian, Republican lawmakers.

And, we question whether or not these same types of questions would be asked if the lawmaker were Sen. Karen Carter Peterson (D-New Orleans), who is also a Christian.

Further, we will not apologize for bringing issues like these to light.
