First, there’s the Kate Steinle murder. After the 32-year old died in her father’s arms at the San Francisco pier thanks to a bullet from an illegal alien criminal who made his home in that sanctuary city despite having been deported five times previously, our president had this to say through his chief media flack…
“Eventually, it’s going to require the American people speaking up and speaking out, and making clear to Congress this is an issue that they’re going to cast a vote on,” Mr. Earnest said. “There are common sense steps that Congress can take that would — that would make our streets safer; make it harder for criminals and those who shouldn’t have guns from getting their hands on them.”
So, gun control.
It didn’t take long for this to happen…
The gun used to kill a 32-year-old woman on San Francisco’s waterfront was stolen from a federal agent in a car burglary in June, sources close to the investigation said Tuesday.
The .40-caliber pistol was stolen from the agent not long before Kathryn Steinle was shot to death July 1 at Pier 14 on the Embarcadero, said one source, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to talk about the case publicly.
Other sources said the weapon was apparently not the agent’s official gun. It was reported stolen in an auto burglary in the downtown area, they said.
So, gun control wouldn’t have helped. It’s interesting how every time there is a high-profile case of gun violence and gun control is brought up as a panacea for it, shortly thereafter we find out that none of the suggested gun-control fixes on offer from the president and his party would have stopped the case from happening.
The Obama administration also castigated Republicans for not passing a “comprehensive” immigration reform in the wake of the Steinle murder…
“The president has done everything within his power to make sure that we’re focusing our law enforcement resources on criminals and those who pose a threat to public safety,” Mr. Earnest said. “It’s because of the political efforts of Republicans that we have not been able to make the kind of investment that we would like to make in securing our border and keeping our communities safe.”
But San Francisco is a sanctuary city, and the local government had denied repeated requests to turn the perpetrator, Francisco Sanchez, over to the feds for deportation. There is nothing on the table among Obama’s proposals that would have stopped a sanctuary city from refusing to assist in the enforcement of federal law.
Then there’s the Federal Reserve in New York, which just released a study showing that our president’s plan to heap easy student loans on college kids is actually making college more expensive, because it’s blowing away the fiscal discipline consumers would otherwise impose on the higher education market.
A report from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York suggests that federal student aid programs are doing more harm than good. When subsidized federal loans have the effect of “relaxing students’ funding constraints,” universities respond by raising tuition to collect the newly available cash.
The resultant tuition hikes can be substantial: The researchers found that each additional dollar of Pell Grant or subsidized student loan money translates to a tuition jump of 55 or 65 cents, respectively. Of course, the higher tuition also applies to students who don’t receive federal aid, making college less affordable across the board.
The report also found that subsidized federal loans do not appear to increase enrollment. “[W]hile one would expect a student aid expansion to benefit recipients,” the study authors wrote, “the subsidized loan expansion could have been to their detriment, on net, because of the sizable and offsetting tuition effect.”
Over and over again we’ve heard from Obama that the federal government needed to take over student loans so as to cut the cost of those loans, and pump more money into them – which has created a credit bubble of staggering size (there is now more student loan debt than credit card debt in this country). Now we know the actual effect of what he’s done – he’s merely allowed colleges and universities to gorge off free money from a rigged market.
Let’s call that oh-for-two.
And then we have a development in the IRS scandal.
Remember this?
How does that hold up in the face of this?
Documents released today by Judicial Watch show the Department of Justice colluding with the Internal Revenue Service to cook up criminal prosecutions of targeted non-profit conservative groups.
The newly obtained records include an official “DOJ Recap” report detailing an October 2010 meeting between Lois Lerner, DOJ officials and the FBI. The documents also reveal that the Obama DOJ wanted IRS employees who were going to testify to Congress to turn over documents to the DOJ before giving them to Congress.
Records also detail how the Obama IRS gave the FBI 21 computer disks, containing 1.25 million pages of confidential IRS returns from 113,000 nonprofit social 501(c)(4) welfare groups – or nearly every 501(c)(4) in the United States – as part of its prosecution effort. According to a letter from then-House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-CA) to IRS Commissioner John Koskinen, “This revelation likely means that the IRS – including possibly Lois Lerner – violated federal tax law by transmitting this information to the Justice Department.”
The documents were produced subsequent to courtorders in two Judicial Watch Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuits: Judicial Watch v. Internal Revenue Service (No. 1:14-cv-1956) and Judicial Watch v. Department of Justice (No. 1:14-cv-1239).
“These new documents show that the Obama IRS scandal is also an Obama DOJ and FBI scandal,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. “The FBI and Justice Department worked with Lois Lerner and the IRS to concoct some reason to put President Obama’s opponents in jail before his reelection. And this abuse resulted in the FBI’s illegally obtaining confidential taxpayer information. How can the Justice Department and FBI investigate the very scandal in which they are implicated?”
What’s interesting about Obama’s lies is how quickly they melt in the sunlight and how completely they dissolve under the pressure of events.
Virtually everything coming out of that man’s mouth is provably wrong. There has never been another president anything even remotely like him.
It’s no surprise that the country has lost faith in its government and currently has a severe crisis of confidence. It’s not just that Obama sucks, it’s that he’s made America suck.
