Well… er… not exactly? But, they did find a great deal of joy in posting their reaction to secret audio of Ted Cruz bashing Mitt Romney…
While giving a speech in May for the Council for National Policy, a secretive group of top conservative donors and activists, Cruz said Romney was the worst candidate the GOP could have nominated in 2012 because of his record on healthcare reform.
“We have had three elections since President Obama was elected. Two of them – 2010 and 2014 – were national referenda on Obamacare. It was the number one issue, twice. Both elections were tsunami, tidal-waves for Republicans — historic victories,” Cruz said in the audio recording obtained by National Journal.
“Now, in between the two tidal waves, the Republican Party, in its infinite wisdom, sought out and found the one human being on the face of the planet who had designed and implemented a program just like Obamacare. Literally – there are 7 billion people on earth. You could have grabbed any other person and asked them, ‘Excuse me, sir, have you designed and implemented Obamacare? No? You’re a better candidate!'” Cruz said in the audio recording.
Let’s see here… There’s a secret meeting, audio comes out, someone says something that could offend the sensibilities of another… Why, this sounds familiar, doesn’t it? The only difference here is that liberals think it will hurt a conservative, when really the opposite will happen. Ted Cruz’s popularity among conservatives will rise as he is perceived as not taking shots from Mitt Romney lying down. Mitt Romney’s success rate at presidential politics is… well, he doesn’t have a success rate. He outlasted other burned-out campaigns in the primary only to fail in the general.
But, back to the matter at hand: I thoroughly enjoy that secret tapes are back on the table. Hopefully the fine folks at the American Center for Law and Justice, who are now representing the Center for Medical Progress as others try to restrain them from posting videos*, will be able to get all secret tapes back on the table. It’s great that TPM wants to lay the groundwork for the First Amendment and for the CMP.
*P.S. If you donate to ACLJ during their Matching Challenge period, your donations, which will go to helping defend CMP and others, will be matched dollar-for-dollar. Take advantage if you believe in the Pro-Life movement and the First Amendment.
