Under the watch of Mayor Mitch Landrieu of New Orleans, the city has become a “sanctuary city,” a common haven for illegal immigrants who do not want to be deported.

Essentially, sanctuary cities protect illegal immigrants by not enforcing federal immigrations laws and ignoring the policies of US Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
