I have to say this is Angelle’s best ad so far. He rattles off a bunch of standard conservative positions such as people work requirements for welfare. He closes it with a subtle dig at David Vitter, “I won’t ever embarrass you.”
Now did Angelle do what he needed to do in this ad? Yes and no. He needed to establish himself as a conservative and he did. However, he really didn’t draw any contrasts with Jay Dardenne. That may hurt him on election night and hold his numbers down.
In fact, Angelle’s best closing ad is not actually being done by the campaign itself. His superPAC, Louisiana Rising, released this 15 second video on Facebook yesterday. It tells the audience that there is a conservative alternative to Vitter. At the same time, it calls Dardenne a liberal without actually calling him one.
Will this be enough to knock Vitter out, we’ll find out on Saturday night.
