John Fleming Hires His Louisiana-Based Campaign Team

Yesterday, the John Fleming for Senate campaign announced they have hired their Louisiana-based campaign team to supplement their Virginia-based media operation.

Here is the team and some comments about each one.

Campaign Manager – J Hudson

J Hudson is serving as Campaign Manager. Hudson has temporarily left his post as Managing Partner at 3 Strategies LLC to work on the Fleming campaign. Last year, he and his firm worked to secure victories for several BESE and legislative candidates, including the defeat of two incumbents with the election of Sandy Holloway to BESE and State Representative Rick Edmonds to the Louisiana House. Last year, Hudson’s firm also worked to elect Sen. Dan Claitor, Sen. Norby Chabert, Rep. Chris Hazel, Rep. Steve Carter, and BESE Chairman Jim Garvey. Hudson has served as the communications consultant for the House Republican Delegation for the past two years, as Campaign Manager for Paul Dietzel’s 2014 congressional campaign, and on the senior staff of Herman Cain’s presidential campaign. J is a native of Houma and is a graduate of LSU.

Hudson is an interesting choice. Given Hudson’s usual clientele, I wouldn’t think Fleming would be a natural choice. But having said that Hudson is very good at what he and his campaign does. He was instrumental in crushing the “Flip BESE” slate when they tried to challenge incumbents such as Jim Garvey. This was a very good hire by Fleming.

Coalitions Outreach Advisor – JC Fleming

JC Fleming is a native of Minden, LA and holds both a Bachelors and law degree.  Fleming leads the campaign’s coalitions outreach statewide across Louisiana.  Prior to leading coalition outreach, Fleming served as the campaign point person and lead liaison for operations and logistics.  An attorney by profession, Fleming has an extensive background in the northern Louisiana business community.

JC is of course Fleming’s son. I had lunch with him last week, he’ll do fine in this role. The most important part of this is that JC finally has a defined role in the campaign.

Political Director – Brian Davis

Brian Davis has served as Director of Operations with 3 Strategies LLC and led the ground campaign for numerous winning legislative candidates. The ground teams he led during the 2015 campaign cycle led to the election of nine legislators. Davis has served in the state legislature as an aide to Senator Dan Claitor. He formerly served as the Capital Region Field Director with Americans for Prosperity, where he worked to oust former Senator Mary Landrieu from office. Davis is a native of Baton Rouge and is a graduate of LSU.

I honestly don’t know a whole lot about Brian Davis, but this is not a bad hire for the simple fact he’s already worked with Hudson in the past.

Director of Operations – Ruth Flores Ward

Ruth Flores Ward has worked for the past six years to enhance pro-life and pro-family policies in Louisiana. While remaining active in her local church, Ward began her political career with Louisiana Family Forum, where she served as the Event Coordinator and Office Manager. She also has served as the legislative assistant to Representative Valarie Hodges. Ward has coordinated hundreds of statewide meetings with the local faith community including pro-life and foster care organizations. Ward was elected to East Baton Rouge Parish Republican Parish Executive Committee, is a life-long resident of South Louisiana, and is graduate of LSU.

Ruth Ward is the best hire out of all of them. She is well-respected among social conservatives, who will be vital for John Fleming’s chances.

Regional Field Director – John Dalton Griffin

John Griffin has served as a Political Director for North Louisiana with Billy Nungesser’s campaign for Lieutenant Governor and worked with the Ted Cruz PAC, Keep the Promise. He currently serves in Republican Party Leadership as Treasurer and Member of the Bossier Republican Parish Executive Committee and a member of the Republican State Central Committee. John is a native of Bossier City and is a graduate of LSU-Shreveport.

Griffin nearly won Louisiana for Ted Cruz, he is a good hire from that standpoint. But the Fleming campaign is by all accounts behind the 8 ball in north Louisiana, so Griffin will have a tough task ahead of him.

Finance Assistant – Adeem Nachabe

Adeem Nachabe is a native of New Orleans and attended Metairie Park Country Day School in Metairie, LA. Prior to joining the Fleming for Senate campaign, Nachabe worked for Americans for Prosperity as a field associate.  He is a graduate of Tulane University.

Met Adeem last week. He’s a nice young man and this is good from the standpoint of giving Fleming some New Orleans-area ties. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him running metro New Orleans eventually for Fleming.

This is by and large a good team Fleming has hired. Most of these people have proven track records of success here in Louisiana. But they have a lot of work to do to try and make it into the runoff.
