The Illegal Alien I-10 Bus Driver Was Hired By A Company Co-Owned By A St. Tammany Parish Politician

Scott brought you the story in yesterday’s Hither and Yon about a deadly bus crash on I-10 this weekend. The crash near LaPlace killed two people, including a fire chief. The bus was carrying illegal immigrant workers to areas impacted by recent flooding. It was being driven by an illegal alien with a terrible driving record that had no driver’s license.

But WWL-TV has done some more investigating on the crash and it discovered this little tidbit. The company that hired the bus and the illegal alien is co-owned by Eddie Schmidt who is a St. Tammany Parish Constable.

A company owned by a St. Tammany Parish constable and an Arkansas state representative hired the bus full of illegal workers that caused a fatal accident on Interstate 10 Sunday, and one of the workers with a particularly bad driving record was at the wheel.

WRS, an Arkansas company registered to three men — including Eddie Schmidt, the elected Ward 4 constable for St. Tammany Parish, and David Wallace, a state legislator from Leachville, Ark. – had a man named Edgar round up potential workers. Wallace told The New Orleans Advocate that WRS hired a bus to take the work crew to a commercial job site in the Baton Rouge area.

Sources tell WWL-TV that the driver of the bus, Denis Amaya Rodriguez of Honduras, had been doing work for the man named Edgar and had been doing construction jobs over the last year for Schmidt’s company. They said Amaya was just one of several undocumented workers on that regular work crew and was not an experienced bus driver.

It’s unclear why Amaya ended up driving the bus and why the bus company, Kristina’s Transportation, did not provide a driver. Especially because Amaya’s driving record is particularly bad.

Eddie Schmidt is supposed to enforce the law but he’s violating immigration laws instead. He needs to resign.

The penalties for hiring illegal aliens range anywhere from a $375 fine to 6 months in Federal prison. But that won’t matter because WRS and Kristina’s Transportation are about to be bled dry by lawsuits.

The Louisiana Legislature needs to pass legislation mandating that illegal aliens who are stopped multiple times for moving violations and/or cause an accident need to be remanded to ICE for deportation. We can’t have people like Denis Amaya Rodriguez causing death and destruction on Louisiana’s highways.
