State tax revenues in Texas totaled $18.3 billion in the second quarter of 2019, the third highest tally among the 50 states, according to newly released data from the U.S. Census Bureau.
The total includes general sales and gross receipts taxes of $12.7 billion and license fees of $959 million and excludes property tax revenue data, which was unavailable. There are no individual income taxes in Texas.
The numbers also exclude taxes levied by local governments, which in some cases determine property tax levels, according to the agency.
The Census Bureau defines “state government” as including the executive, legislative and judicial branches, including agencies, panels and public bodies that are somewhat autonomous from the state.
Nationwide, state tax collections rose 8.3 percent during the second quarter of the year when compared to the same period in 2018, the Census Bureau reported. State revenues totaled $331.6 billion in April, May and June of 2019, compared to $306.1 in Q2 of 2018, according to the analysis.
