Carolina rigs are an integral part of most bass anglers’ arsenal, but generally, in the estuaries of South Louisiana, they’re used only with live shrimp or minnows impaled on the hooks.

This time of year, that’s like throwing money in the water. My son, Joel, uses nose-hooked Matrix Shad soft-plastics to catch plenty speckled trout when they crowd ledges in the spring.
