LSU Just Hired William Tate As Its President. Here’s His Scholarly Record.

Rather than rant and rave about how James Williams, the LSU Board of Supervisors member who has more or less plenary power on that board, and Collis Temple, who’s the Board of Supervisors member you see in the photo above who’s dressed differently than all the others, buffaloed the Board into hiring somebody on the basis of race, we’ll just rip off the Google Scholar page of one William F. Tate, formerly provost at the University of South Carolina and now LSU’s first black president.

It doesn’t bother us that LSU now has a black president. What bothers us is that LSU has gone from a pair of woke white leftists running the place in F. King Alexander and Tom Galligan to a radical leftist purveyor of Critical Race Theory. Tate’s scholarly citations are almost uniformly about that subject and it is inconceivable that CRT wouldn’t provide the framework for his governance of the university.

Here’s what Tate has published in scholarly publications…

No time like the present: Reflecting on equity in school mathematics

C Rousseau, WF Tate
Theory into Practice 42 (3), 210-216
A quick excerpt from that article:
“Mathematics education has traditionally paid little attention to teacher reflection about equity. In this article, we argue that the time has come to move equity from the margins to the mainstream in mathematics education and make it a focus of teacher reflection. To illustrate the need for a focus on equity, we describe the beliefs of a group of high school mathematics teachers. We argue that the teachers’ views of equity and race blocked substantive reflection about the nature of their instructional practices and the impact of those practices on students of color in their classes. We submit that this case is important because it highlights some of the assumptions that must be challenged in an effort to promote the kind of reflective practice that can contribute to the realization of opportunity to learn school mathematics.”
