BATISTE: New Orleans Ladies Lead Efforts To End COVID Mandates

A new group of heroes have taken a stand in the fight to end the pandemic. This group, a fast-growing team of heroines called the “Bayou Mama Bears,” filed a lawsuit on Monday, January 31, in Orleans Parish Civil District Court against New Orleans mayor LaToya Cantrell, the New Orleans Health Department, and city health director Jennifer Avegno over the government’s infringement into private operation with its Covid-19 mandates.

According to WVUE, more than 100 plaintiffs—about half of whom live in Orleans Parish, and half of whom reside in Jefferson Parish or other parts of Louisiana—filed the suit to end the highly-detested mask and vaccine mandates that have been forced on private businesses, residents, children, schools, and visitors in the city of New Orleans.

WVUE reported that the Rodrigue & Arcuri Law Group, in part representing the BMBs, issued a statement regarding the 24-page New Orleans lawsuit which said, “The people of New Orleans and our children have endured nearly two years of unprecedented control from our so-called city leaders. What started as a temporary means to protect the community from unknown risks of a virus has turned into a circus of mandates that no longer make sense to any rational person. Enough is enough. People all over our great state who live, work and worship in New Orleans are united in this effort to take back control of their lives and families.”

The Bayou Mama Bears face a fight against a corrupt establishment: government. The BMBs need the help and support of the like-minded (sane) people who reject authoritarian government. So let’s give them some help.

Search on social media for @BayouMamaBears and you will find their followers growing by the hundreds each day. In fact, the growth of the Bayou Mama Bears’ following may out pace the spread of Covid spread.

Let’s take a look at some of the individuals in government responsible for some of the decisions that have led to this point and review some of the statements made by the same folks throughout the “pandemic.”

Jennifer Avegno is an MD, practiced as an Emergency Room physician, and in 2018 New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell appointed her as the City of New Orleans’ Health Director. Avegno has an extensive education path. She graduated from St. Mary’s Dominican High School, studied sociology at The University of Notre Dame and then Tulane University, and went to LSU Medical School.

Avegno’s biography includes: “Her clinical, program, and research interests include the role of social determinants of health, particularly access and barriers to care; health equity; violence intervention/prevention; sexual assault and human trafficking; and homelessness.”

Avegno said of her municipal employment, “It is an honor to be the voice that communicates health information to the community.”

What seems evident is Dr. Avegno’s support for government control of private institutions and private lives. She has only revealed two weapons against Covid-19 in her medical case: vaccines and masks. As the city’s Health Director, Avegno carries the liability of forcing 5 year olds and up to get the “vaccines,” despite the Pfizer, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson treatments only having Emergency Authorized Use—not full FDA approval—for that age range. Under Avegno’s order, children must take the “vaccine” in order to participate in society. The legality of the mandates needed to be tested in New Orleans to challenge the city’s overreach into the private sector.

Since Avegno insists on intruding into the personal lives of families, let’s look at her own. Avegno is married to Kurt Weigel who worked for the Downtown Development District until November 12, 2020, when Weigel resigned without reason. The CurVir Biotech website lists Kurt Weigel as its Managing Director. The company was registered with the Secretary of State on March 19, 2020.

CurVir’s website reads: “CurVir Biotech is a start-up company whose innovative, patented therapeutic approaches block the entrance of SARS-CoV-2, as well as other viruses, into the lung, nasal mucosa, eye, brain, and gastrointestinal tract. Our unique approach protects the affected organ and decreases viral infectivity.”

With Avegno holding public office and pushing mandates that her husband may benefit from, it would seem like a potential ethical violation.

Now that you have a background on Avegno, read some of the comments she has made.

“If you are planning a party for 100 people, look around and decide which 7 of them you would be comfortable sentencing to death.” Jennifer Avegno, June 20, 2020

“The myth that young people can’t get sick is untrue—and more importantly, they can easily spread it to loved ones and contacts who are at much higher risk.” Jennifer Avegno, June 20, 2020

“If you are white and privileged, COVID-19 is still coming for you.” Jennifer Avegno, June 20, 2020

“There is now light at the end of the tunnel and we just need to get through this last stretch.” Jennifer Avegno, December 2, 2020

“By vaccinating your children you are significantly lessening the chance that we will see future or more deadly outbreaks.” Jennifer Avegno, May 13, 2021

“We are continuing to see disparities in terms of race.” Currently, the city’s vaccination campaign is emphasizing door-to-door canvassing. Avegno said that recent efforts had targeted Central City and St. Roch, and that more new vaccinations were going to Black residents. The pace, she said, is “slow and steady, slow and steady.” Jennifer Avegno, July 13, 2021 (The Lens)

“We have come far, but it would be unthinkable to go back now.” Jennifer Avegno, July 14, 2021

“If we do this, this wonderful Fall that we’ve got planned, our festivals, our football, will proceed as planned. And that’s what we all want… And it’s very much within our grasp.” Jennifer Avegno, July 30, 2021

“But the problem is that (sigh) the burden of the Delta variant among our unvaccinated residents and neighbors and those that come to New Orleans is such that it is putting all of us at risk.” Jennifer Avegno, July 30, 2021

“What made me feel good is that people were outside, (Krewe of Boo) felt like a typical parade, but when you went inside to get a drink or to have dinner, you were being asked for your vaccine card. It felt good. Our hearts got a little brighter during the event.” Jennifer Avegno, October 26, 2021

“The indoor mask mandate that was in place over the past several months helped us reduce the surge in cases we saw due to the Delta variant.” Dr. Jennifer Avegno, October 27, 2021

“Parents, know any kids who’ve died of measles? Rubella? Polio? These diseases used to kill thousands a year but thanks to widespread vaccines being required for school entry by @LADeptHealth, pediatric deaths are a thing of the past. As they should be.” Jennifer Avegno tweeted December 6, 2021.

If Doctor Avegno was being fair, she could have just as easily coaxed the same response had she asked: Parents, know any kids who’ve died of Covid-19?

The NOLA.gov webpage on vaccines does not include any language at all about risks, not even the minor ones acknowledged on the FDA’s website. “So, unlike medications that help you get better, vaccines can actually prevent you from getting sick in the first place.” City of New Orleans

Elected officials are clearly confused. They are not the life coaches of their electorates—they work for the people. Individuals and businesses are taxed so the governmentally-employed can make a living—not the other way around.

Elected or appointed, they work for the people of New Orleans. The mayor and her health director decided to widely ignore the public. They shut down businesses, directly affected citizens’ income with authoritarian rule. And in the end, city employees’ pay was not impacted as a roughly 10% pay reduction started October 10, 2020, was reimbursed. Get it? The city leaders that flat-out shut down businesses still took home their full income while many in the private sector suffered and continue to limp along. Think of the restaurants and companies that went out of business since this Wuhan Flu started.

Most egregiously, these city officials mandated that children as young as five years old must be vaccinated—with an expedited, Emergency Authorized treatment for that age group. Neither Avegno nor Cantrell discuss the risks to adults or to children. That seems like nondisclosure of a medical issue.

This is on the FDA’s website from its August 23, 2021, announcement of the full approval of Pfizer’s vaccine for 16 year olds and older:

“The vaccine is effective in preventing COVID-19and potentially serious outcomes including hospitalization and death.”

“The FDA conducted a rigorous evaluation of the post-authorization safety surveillance data pertaining to myocarditis and pericarditis following administration of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine and has determined that the data demonstrate increased risks, particularly within the seven days following the second dose. The observed risk is higher among males under 40 years of age compared to females and older males. The observed risk is highest in males 12 through 17 years of age.” FDA August 23, 2021

“Information is not yet available about potential long-term health outcomes.” FDA August 23, 2021

The 2022 queen of Krewe De Vieux opted out. Over safety reasons. What kind of society are we living in where we reach that point for such a thing to happen? Step back and tell yourself the scenario in your head: the Health Director for the city of New Orleans declined a reign on a satirical Mardi Gras parade due to perceived death threats. It’s sad.

Why would someone make death threats against the Health Director for the city of New Orleans? This is not a justification, but it certainly makes a statement that the city should understand that it has gone too far. They have used too much authority as to how people and businesses operate. If you are a public figure, implementing public policy, and you are concerned for your safety riding in a carnival parade, perhaps it is time to reassess the decisions you make and actions you take.

It isn’t a big, complicated mystery as to why New Orleanians are frustrated. Little of the mandates actually make sense, and it is evidenced on social media with videos and images of Mayor Cantrell proving to be one of the biggest hypocrites in the country with her excessive partying without masking.

Cantrell held her inauguration event on January 10th then announced on January 11th the “reinstatement of the indoor mask mandate” as if people were too stupid to understand her self-serving decisions.

This cliché has been beaten to death: rules for thee but not for me. New Orleans should not tolerate this. They shouldn’t threaten violence against city officials, although one could make the argument that public servants not only have ignored a large portion of their population, but taken a more controlling grasp over them. If the politicians refuse to listen and adhere to the populace, they should be called on it.

Back to the world of logic, reasoning, and rationalizing—if masks and vaccines worked, would the “pandemic” be in this shape two years later? At this point in time, evidence exists which produces scientific data showing the ineffectiveness of masking. But also, if masks, lockdowns, and vaccines have us under mandates in February 2022, the time has come to try new approaches.

Across the country and globe, governments are still implementing strict rules around Covid, and the unspoken implication is that government or businesses could be held liable for people catching Covid. If that is the motivation behind Covid mandates, anyone suffering from vaccine effects should hold the authoritative organization liable in court. Meaning if 8 year old Andre gets vaccinated because his public school mandated it, and his family wants to be able to go out for a meal, and Andre develops myocarditis, Andre’s family should sue the city of New Orleans, the New Orleans Health Department, and Orleans Parish School Board.

The city of New Orleans has several press statements about the Covid-19 vaccines, yet these linked do not mention risks or side effects. Not even the little side effects.

The city of New Orleans’ vaccine mandate for schools took effect February 1st, and despite forcing it upon the city’s youth, The Times Picayune/TheAdvocate/NOLA.com rarely writes about the Covid-19 vaccine risks. They seem to dismiss risks as opposed to investigate them. And with typical, Leftist hypocrisy, they wave off concerns of side effects as being minimal, yet they emphasize Covid’s risk at all times despite it also being very minimal. Contracting Covid-19 and dying from Covid-19 are a world apart, and the American establishment-media has done nothing to stress this. If you listen to the reporters at NOLA, they say your kid should get vaccinated and not to worry because side effects are rare; but Covid-19 is like super bad and it’s everywhere and in some magic way the unvaccinated can make the vaccinated sick, so go get vaccinated!

It’s time for Louisiana to stand up and end this charade. If a parent or child wants the vaccine, go for it. If a parent wants their kid to wear a mask at school, go for it. But the mandates must end—no more forced masks and no more mandated vaccines. The Bayou Mama Bears have acted, will you?
