Shreveport and Bossier City and a Revolting Pattern of Sex Crimes

Perhaps the detectives in the Shreveport and Bossier City area are better at catching perverts than their counterparts in the surrounding northern Louisiana parishes?

Maybe this sort of thing has gone on everywhere for decades, if not centuries, and it’s only because of the Internet and media saturating our lives that we now know about it?

Or is it possible Shreveport-Bossier has something toxic in its water supply that sickens the minds of certain men?

Year after year after year, the Shreveport and Bossier City media reports how residents allegedly commit truly heinous sex crimes that involve children or (and I can’t believe I’m typing this) animals.

The most recent example, according to the Shreveport-based television station KTBS: Deputies with the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested a Shreveport man this month and charged him with distributing child pornography. According to the station that man allegedly possessed more than 9,000 pornographic images of juveniles and animals.

Other examples of local men who have alleged degenerate tendencies:

• A Bossier Police officer faced animal sex abuse and possession of child pornography charges in 2019. The officer allegedly “engaged in sexual conduct with a dog and possessed pornographic images of a person and an animal engaged in sexual conduct.”

• In 2021, Bossier Sheriff’s deputies arrested a man and charged him with possessing sexual images of children and images of animals and humans engaged in sexual acts.

• Shreveport Police officers, in 2021, charged a man with the sexual assault of a child under the age of 12.

• In 2022, Bossier Sheriff’s deputies arrested a father and son and charged the father with using a social media account to solicit a juvenile. The son was charged with 30 counts of pornography involving juveniles.

• In January of this year, a 94-year-old man — who once served as a deputy for the Bossier Parish Sheriff’s Office — pleaded guilty to sexual assault on a fifth-grade girl.

Again, maybe this kind of thing happens in Shreveport-Bossier no more frequently than it happens anyplace else. But I monitor a lot of media around the state and elsewhere, and I don’t see this kind of thing reported nearly as much as I see it reported there.

Nevertheless, this aberration of behavior is what we saw on the HBO series True Detective, starring Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey, which took place in south Louisiana.

I shouldn’t give anybody any ideas, but don’t act surprised if either of those two actors show up in Shreveport-Bossier one day to do a sequel.

Or maybe Netflix will come to do a documentary.
