KOENIG: A New Era In Louisiana Politics Starts This Weekend

The day is almost here: Election Day 2023. After Governor Edwards’ eight year-long reign, the citizens of Louisiana need some hope.

Badly.

Louisiana is at the bottom of nearly every single public policy or quality of life metric. Louisiana ranks dead last (5oth place) in the US News & World Report‘s 2023  overall ranking of US States. Additionally, the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) ranked Louisiana dead last (50th place)  in its economic performance ranking from 2011 to 2021.

What’s more, Louisiana is home to three of America’s ]most dangerous cities (New Orleans, Monroe, and Alexandria), with two others – Baton Rouge and Shreveport – in the national top 10 in murder rates, and our state’s population is rapidly declining.

Not a bright picture to say the least.

Despite all of the issues facing Louisiana, our state’s continued decline does not have to continue. The good people of this state hold an opportunity to drastically change the state’s direction tomorrow. On this election day, Louisiana voters have a decision to make for the Governor’s race. The first option is for Louisiana can to continue the catastrophic leadership of John Bel Edwards by picking his former Transportation secretary and Democrat gubernatorial candidate Shawn Wilson. The second option is for Louisiana to choose a conservative fighter who will overturn the state’s eight-year run of mediocrity under Governor Edwards. Of all the Republicans running for governor, one candidate has consistently demonstrated himself as a fighter for conservative values. I believe that candidate is Louisiana’s Attorney General Jeff Landry.

Heading into election day, Landry is the only viable conservative/Republican candidate based on recent polling. All of the available polling out there basically showing a double-digit lead for Landry over Wilson, pushing 20 points in some surveys, and a far greater lead against the rest of the field in the jungle primary. None of the other candidates have even shown double-digit strength in most polling, and frankly, most of them should have dropped out by now.

In fact, there is a distinct possibility that Landry could gain an outright victory on election day–although a Landry-Wilson runoff appears the more likely scenario. Regardless, what matters is the finally vote tally on election day, whether tomorrow or in November, and barring something unforeseen Landry is going to be Louisiana’s next governor.

It cannot be overstated how massive a change from John Bel Edwards to Jeff Landry this will be.

Louisiana also has plenty of other important elections throughout the state–from state-wide races like for the Attorney General and Secretary of State to some heated showdowns in the State House and State Senate. Don’t be surprised if many statewide office elections and legislative elections end up going to a run-off next month.

While the Governor’s race is getting plenty of attention, conservative must not forget about all of these other elections on the ballot. A fair number of RINOs are up for re-election in the State Legislature, so we must vote for the candidates who oppose the state’s most notorious RINOs. I would personally recommend checking out the endorsement list of conservative organizations like the Louisiana Freedom Caucus and LACAG to find out how are the authentic conservatives in Louisiana’s legislative elections.

Based on the Early voting data so far, this election cycle is shaping up to become a seismic shift in Louisiana politics … for the better. Republican voters turned out at a higher rate than Democrats in early voting. Compare this fact to 2019 when Democrats turned out at a higher rate than Republicans in early voting for that election cycle.

Tomorrow offers a fresh start for Louisiana: a Louisiana full of prosperity, faith, and hope. A new day for Louisiana is on the ballot tomorrow, and let’s pray that this new day comes fast for us.

May Christ bless our state on this momentous election, and may wisdom prevail on tomorrow’s Election day. God Bless Louisiana!
