The “He Gets Us” campaign is in direct and fierce opposition to the Jesus of the Bible. However, it is also a clear picture of what Paul wrote to the church at Corinth:

“And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.” (2 Corinthians 11:14)

If you have never read Paul’s letters to the church at Corinth, let me just sum up for you what Paul says in a nutshell in 1 & 2 Corinthians:

Because I love Jesus, I love you with all of my heart; and because I love Him and because I love you, I’ll fight with everything I have to protect you from anything that distorts the beauty of Jesus in any way by any means possible in the power of God’s grace.

That’s the context of Paul’s passion in 2 Corinthians 11, and there is important application here in regards to the “He Gets Us” campaign. Here is a pastor pouring his heart out before a church in helping them to see the true Christ, doing it with every fiber of his soul because Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.

Something else here that can often be missed: once you open the door to pleasing man and thinking that you need to change Jesus in order to “reach people,” it’s a matter of time when you start to accept your own idolized version of Jesus. And before you know it, you’ve created a golden calf of acceptance and are no longer acceptable to God. Like God told His people in Jeremiah, “You have forsaken Me, the fountain of living waters, and hewed out cisterns for themselves, broken cisterns that can hold no water.”

Whoever has started this campaign has done precisely this, and it’s a campaign that has forsaken the fountain of Living Water (John 7:37-39) and become a broken cistern that holds no water–in other words, it is completely and utterly useless! Millions of useless dollars invested to portray a false Christ!

But there’s another application from 2 Corinthians 11 that we should consider when it comes to “He Gets Us.” And that is this:

Thank God for those in leadership in the Church today who will stand on the solid rock of Christ while also standing against such evils as “He Gets Us.” Friends and especially fellow believers, that’s MY JESUS being falsely portrayed to the entire world! And Satan loves nothing more than presenting a false Christ to the world- remember his temptation to Jesus? What did he attack? The IDENTITY of Jesus!

Thank God for Christian leaders who refuse to crack open the door to pleasing the culture and refuse to bow the knee to an idolized form of Christianity. If you have a pastor or principal or administrator or coach or anyone you see as a spiritual leader who remains steadfast in their commitment to the true Jesus of the Bible–thank God for them, and take the time to thank them personally–today.

Send them a text or a card or a phone call. They are in the trenches and need all the support possible.

“He Lets Us” (participate in His plan of redemption) is far greater than “He Gets Us,” which is simply affirming sin and a sinful way of life.
