MARSH MAN MASSON: Jigging Crappie On Cypress Trees (CATCH And COOK)

There’s something about cypress trees that crappie just love. Called sac-a-lait in South Louisiana, these fish move up to the shallows to spawn this time of year, and for whatever reason, they always seem to be nosed up against the bark of cypresses.

That’s where I cast my lure most often during a trip this week to the river near my house, retrieving a Bobby Garland Slab Hunt’R Minnow through the strike zone. The bites were frequent, and they were ferocious!
