(Editor’s Note: Easter Sunday through the following Sunday was and still is in traditional circles one feast of eight days–called an octave)
Happy Easter to all.
Jesus Christ is risen today! No sweeter words have been spoken in the English language.
On this blessed Easter Sunday, it is my prayer that all of Louisiana would spend this morning in church worshipping the Lord Jesus Christ and proclaiming his glorious resurrection.
Today, I want to share an important message that transcends the daily news and state politics. The King of Kings and Lord of Lords Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins, rose from the dead, and will come again to judge the living and the dead. As Christians, we have joy in the knowledge that Christ defeated sin, death, and the devil through this eternal sacrifice.
Jesus Christ is the King of Louisiana, and it is my hope that the people of Louisiana will recognize Jesus as their king in this Easter season.

On a broader note, politics without Christ is meaningless. Louisiana’s problems will not be solved solely through legislation or executive decree. While I do believe political involvement is of utmost importance in these trying times, our political action must reflect God’s will and his moral law.
In all honesty, lowering taxes and cutting government spending won’t save Louisiana. Fiscal conservatism without a Christian moral framework is unsustainable in the long run. The American founding fathers firmly believed that the American experiment in self-governance is only possible if the citizenry lives moral, religious lives.

Fortunately, Louisiana’s new Governor Jeff Landry seems to understand this reality. During Holy Week, Governor Landry’s media team has promoted explicitly pro-Christian, religious messages—compared to the Biden administration’s blatantly anti-Christian messaging.
For many years, Louisiana politics has neglected to recognize the importance of Christianity in the public square. Our state has a king whether people recognize him or not. Jesus Christ is the King of Louisiana, and every single elected official and citizen in this state ought to recognize this fact.
Going forward, the future prosperity of Louisiana is primarily contingent on the moral character of the state. Therefore, it is right for our state government to promote morally just policies that punish the wicked and promote the good. Nothing else will suffice after decades of decline and moral degeneracy in Louisiana.
To close this Easter post, please meditate on this Scripture passage, Psalm 33:11-19. The psalm reminds us that God blesses those nations who love and fear Him and Him alone.
The counsel of the Lord stands forever,
The plans of His heart to all generations.
12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord,
The people He has chosen as His own inheritance.13 The Lord looks from heaven;
He sees all the sons of men.
14 From the place of His dwelling He looks
On all the inhabitants of the earth;
15 He fashions their hearts individually;
He considers all their works.16 No king is saved by the multitude of an army;
A mighty man is not delivered by great strength.
17 A horse is a vain hope for safety;
Neither shall it deliver any by its great strength.18 Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear Him,
On those who hope in His mercy,
19 To deliver their soul from death,
And to keep them alive in famine.
Thank you all for reading, and may Christ Jesus bless the state of Louisiana! Only Louisiana First!
