LADY LIBERTY: Supporting Shady Democrats At The GOP-Led Louisiana Legislature

Is driving an unmarked police model SUV and falsely identifying as a police officer the new standard for members of the Louisiana Legislature?

What about stalking and harassing your ex-girlfriend, cutting the cord to her air conditioner, and texting her nine-year-old daughter, pushing her to file a restraining order against you?

Or is the home run being ticketed more than once for driving a vehicle with a switched license plate, having no proof of insurance, and failing to register said vehicle?

Unfortunately, most voters in Representative Steven Jackson’s district are probably unaware that all three examples above are from his criminal history.

You may be wondering why I’m blowing the whistle on a single Democrat when we have a Republican majority. The answer lies in a piece of legislation making its way through the Senate as we speak: HB461, by Rep. Steven Jackson (D).

HB461 will add exemptions, exceptions, and limitations to public records requests. If passed, certain information that is currently considered public record could be deemed confidential for up to two years. My question is, what are they trying to hide?

Will this open the door for politicians to manipulate government contracts for personal gain while concealing it from the public eye?

Even the Louisiana Press Association has expressed their opposition to this bill, claiming it would hamper transparency.

This is a slap in the face to Louisiana taxpayers, so why are conservatives in Baton Rouge supporting it? (See the House Floor Vote on HB461 here.)

Are Republicans in Baton Rouge unaware of Steven Jackson’s criminal record, or is he carrying the water for the uni-party of Louisiana? We will find out on Monday, May 13th when the Senate takes their vote.

Call your senator today to warn them about HB461 – and Steven Jackson.

Lady Liberty is the nom de plume of a well-known insider to Louisiana politics. Her name is protected so that she can share the unfiltered truth publicly.
