Earlier this month, I penned an article here on The Hayride about how Louisiana’s DNC delegates duped Louisiana’s Democratic party voters. Over 86% of Louisiana Democratic voters chose Joe Biden in their party’s presidential primary. However, the LADEMO’s head honchos decided to throw their support behind VP Kamala Harris, and the rest was history.
Last month, Louisiana’s DNC delegation overwhelmingly threw its support behind Kamala Harris even though she didn’t receive a single vote in the party’s presidential primary.
Here we are in late August, and the 2024 Democratic National Convention (DNC) is now under way. We would be remiss not to keep tabs on the Louisiana Democratic party during this major political convention.
Louisiana’s 47 member DNC delegation includes many of the top LADEMO pols in our state—including Congressman Troy Carter, PSC member Davante Lewis, state senate pro temp Regina Barrow, state senator Gary Carter, and New Orleans city councilwoman Helena Moreno.
Louisiana Democrat politicians have ruined the cities of New Orleans and Baton Rouge, and it’s fitting that they are visiting Chicago for the DNC—another city that Democrat politicians have absolutely trashed.
Not surprisingly, a couple of local media outlets provided glowing reports of Louisiana’s DNC delegation heading into the convention. Fortunately, Louisiana’s voters don’t hold a positive outlook toward LADEMO politicos—just look at last year’s election results in Louisiana.
To kickoff night 1 of the 2024 DNC, former & failed New Orleans mayor Mitch Landrieu briefly spoke to the convention audience. Landrieu served as co-chair of the DNC’s platform committee.
Landrieu’s appearance at the DNC is also apropos considering he’s failed in pretty much every political endeavor he’s undertaken—from his eight years as mayor of New Orleans to his tenure as Biden’s re-election campaign co-chair. Thus, serving on the platform committee is a small consolation prize for Landrieu after he lied to the American people about Joe Biden’s mental well-being following Biden’s debate with Trump.
Currently, the Louisiana Democratic party is an absolute dumpster fire following last year’s “red wave” election cycle in Louisiana. While the Democratic party is surging on the national level, the LA Dems have failed to reap any electoral rewards in recent years and are trending toward becoming a minor political party in Louisiana.
That being said, LA Republicans have not fully taken advantage of this political fortune gifted to them in the past year. The previous legislative session exhibited numerous failures—such as insurance reform, the failed constitutional convention bill, Congressional redistricting, closed primaries, etc.
While the LADEMO bosses hang out in Chicago this week, the LAGOP better start planning for next year’s legislative session and learn from this year’s mistakes.
