Despite the fact practically all the polling going into the November 5th election pointing to a defeat, Democrats were still shocked to be on the losing side of both the electoral and popular presidential vote.
They kept telling themselves all over social media that Donald Trump could not possibly win and they figured a Democratic win could be simply wished into existence.
And now we see their already loose grip on reality further slipping between denying the legitimacy of the election and questioning the results (the very thing they carped about Republicans doing for the past four years) to encouraging their impressionable followers to cut ties with friends and family who dared vote for Trump.
That is when they’re not insulting the intelligence and ethnic authenticity of voters on the other side.
So much for the politics of unity, tolerance, and joy.
Who is responsible for the stunning defeat?
To paraphrase Pogo, they have met the enemy and he is us…or in their case, them/they.
The first culprit was James Carville, the architect of the steamrolled nomination of Joe Biden four years ago.
When it appeared that Vermont socialist Bernie Sanders was on the verge of winning the party nomination going into Super Tuesday, the Ragin’ Cajun demanded the other candidates bail out the race and coalesce around the least objectionable option.
However at his advanced age, Biden’s political shelf life had an approaching expiration date and he could not possibly make two terms. It was a shortsighted play doomed to self-destruct.
Because of Biden’s weaknesses as a candidate, he needed a running mate who would not overshadow him.
Biden essentially limited his picks to a pool of four black females with Harris being the most prominent. The then-US Senator from California had run an abysmal White House campaign that was scuttled before the first ballot was cast in 2020.
Prior to his June debate with Trump, Biden was showing increasingly disturbing signs of cognitive decline- all angrily denied by his apologists- but by the time America saw the unspinnable truth Biden had already won renomination.
Re-enter James Carville this time defenestrating the same man he propped up four years before. But this time his seething rage while degrading LSU’s brand was too late.
It was an MSNBC tantrum best thrown earlier than later and his proposed mini-primary was laughably impractical especially since it was obviously thinly-veiled scheme to deny a black female occupying the vice-presidency the top spot. Live by the DEI and die by the DEI.
Regardless, the switcharoo was unseemly and further led the public to question whether Harris was in on concealing Biden’s diminished mental state.
Because Biden didn’t resign, since how can an inability to run square with a continued ability to serve, smelled of a political deal a la Gerald Ford’s pardon of Richard Nixon after the latter’s resignation.
Upon becoming the top of the ticket, Harris found herself with the same challenge as her boss faced four years ago: tagging a running mate who would not upstage her.
Team Kamala would succeed far beyond expectation with the selection of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, albeit too successful.
In addition to bringing zero to the ticket, Walz flopped badly in his debate with Republican US Senator J.D. Vance. That debate arguably marked the beginning of the GOP rally after having had their wind knocked after Biden got the hook and a less than stellar debate performance by Trump.
Harris then made the costly mistake of centering her candidacy of abortion. While the issue had been critical in helping bolster Democrats in the 2022 midterms, people buy gas and milk more often than they terminate pregnancies and the “United States of Abortion” strategy showed a spectacular lack of sane political judgment and misplaced national priorities.
The red neck cos-playing of “White Dudes for Harris” (the very demographic that served as lead villains in Democratic narratives) along with the camo hunting hats and awful advertising was patronizing to the point of embarrassment and peak cringe.
And then Biden struck again on election eve ensuring a motivated Republican turnout by calling Trump supporters garbage.
You really have to wonder whom the president voted for with that “pep talk”
Aa a party the Democrats were guilty of overreach in culture (them/they), rhetoric, and lawfare.
Their unwavering support for the transgender agenda made many Americans, and in particular those who do not traditionally vote Republican, uncomfortable and doubt their loyalty to the Democrats and break in historic numbers towards the GOP.
The Democratic governor of Michigan’s Doritos Communion social media video further solidified her party’s weirdo identity and chased off Catholic voters.
One of the great ironies of the election is the role persons of color played in thwarting an agenda pushed by white leftists.
The Democrats’ barrage of ludicrous charges of fascism led to assassination attempts on President Trump. It’s hard to truly sell the argument that Trump is a threat to democracy while also skipping the primaries and baiting people to gun the opposing candidate down.
When Democrats shriek about the fragility of Democracy they think of January 6th at the US Capitol while normal people think of July 13th in Butler, PA.
Finally the relentless lawfare against Trump by partisan prosecutors disturbed many Americans. This targeted legal harassment caused people to distrust our institutions of government and they silently spoke out against state interference at the ballot box.
Four years of brazen bad behavior by the Democrats caught up with them: the lies, the abuse of power, their incompetence in managing situations across the globe and at home (especially the response to the hurricanes), and the sense of disconnect with the rest of the country outside of the Beltway and California.
All Trump had to do to win was keep a pulse and serve french fries to secure a second non-consecutive term.
