LACAG: Landry’s Curious Silence In The Congressional 6th District Race

The Louisiana Congressional race in the newly drawn 6th District between MAGA Republican Elbert Guillory and Democrat Cleo Fields is among the most consequential contests in America due to the razor thin majority Republicans have in the US Congress. Even if Trump wins the Presidency, a Democrat controlled Congress will undermine his agenda at every turn and do all it can do to cripple his efforts to reform a corrupt, bloated, and overbearing government that has become an enemy to the American people.

Despite the justified criticism of the current Republican Congress, if the Democrats assume control of it things will be much worse. The stakes could not be any higher.

Elbert Guillory, a respected former State legislator, is a principled, philosophical conservative. He understands that our Country is at the final crossroad between tyranny and liberty, hope and despair, prosperity or collapse. Cleo Fields, by contrast, can absolutely be counted on to dutifully push the Biden-Harris agenda in Congress which has driven this Country to its knees. If Harris wins the election, it is hard to imagine she could have a stronger ally than Cleo Fields.  If Trump wins, Fields will routinely oppose his reform agenda. Guillory and Fields could not be more diametrically opposed on the most fundamental issues facing the American people.

Based on Guillory’s history as a respected former legislator who represented multiple parishes included in the new District, as well as the significant surge toward Trump among black Americans, Guillory, who is black, has a fighting chance to win this election despite the fact that the District was racially gerrymandered to favor a minority Democrat.

Republican Governor Jeff Landry, who was endorsed by Trump and used that endorsement to help him get elected, has been curiously silent on this race. One would think that he would not only endorse Guillory, but work actively to ensure his election to this critical seat in light of its profound implications for our State and Country.   It should go without saying the crucial difference an unqualified endorsement from Governor Landry could make.

These are not ordinary times. We are fighting for the survival of America as we know it. We simply do not have the luxury of political gamesmanship. It is possible that Governor Landry has a viable explanation for his inaction. Whatever his reasons, Louisiana citizens have a right to know what they are.

In his inaugural address, Landry said that the people “sent us here not as politicians seeking the next vote, but as Statesmen seeking the next generation.”  What kind of Country the next generation will inherit will be directly influenced by the outcome of this Congressional race. Landry’s silence on it may be remembered as a failure to live up to his words.
