“Hegseth has said that he got into West Point but didn’t attend. We asked West Point public affairs, which told us twice on the record that he hadn’t even applied there. We reached out. Hegseth’s spox gave us his acceptance letter. We didn’t publish a story. That’s journalism.”
– ProPublica editor Jesse Eisinger, responding to a controversy over a story the left-wing news agency was going to write accusing Secretary of Defense nominee Pete Hegseth of lying about his West Point admission – which was spiked by Hegseth going public with proof he’d told the truth. What Eisinger missed, and has been brutally ratioed for, is that the real story is why West Point would have lied to ProPublica in the first place.
