Cassidy Voted Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s Nomination Out Of Committee This Morning

This was the only real option available to him. As our readers know, Bill Cassidy can’t get re-elected next year – he’ll never make it through the GOP primary he’s going to face thanks to the new closed party primary structure put in place last year for federal elections – if he aggravates the public irritation he brought on by voting to impeach Donald Trump four years ago.

But it was Cassidy’s vote in the Senate Finance Committee which gave Kennedy a 14-13 margin to get to the Senate floor. It’s reasonably likely Kennedy’s nomination as the Health and Human Services Secretary will get over the finish line now, even if Vice President J.D. Vance will have to break a 50-50 tie.

And, though it isn’t likely, Cassidy might even vote against the nomination on the floor, in the belief that he can do it without killing the nomination. That would likely be an out for him that he avoids the wrath of the hospitals and pharmaceutical industry, from whom he’s taken seven figures in the current cycle, while also escaping the wrath of President Donald Trump.

But that won’t save him from the wrath of the voters in Louisiana. To be fair, that could well be inevitable.

But it’s interesting to see how Cassidy’s votes are playing back home.

And that came on the heels of this…

As Americans face a chronic disease epidemic, the US Senate is debating the confirmation of Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., President Trump’s nominee for Secretary of HHS. The Louisiana Freedom Caucus sent a letter today urging Senator Cassidy’s support.

“America is in a health crisis and Louisiana is ranked as the least healthy state. We are gravely concerned! Our maternal and fetal health outcomes are the worst in the nation,” said Beryl Amedee, Freedom Caucus Chair. She added, “The majority of our state health budget is spent treating conditions that are completely preventable.”

The letter referenced data indicating that more than 43% of children in this country suffer from chronic disease. It also mentioned Americans’ loss of trust in public health and listed some of Kennedy’s practical solutions to reverse the health crisis and restore that trust, including freeing federal regulatory agencies from corporate influence and returning to evidence-based science.

“Kennedy has come to Louisiana and testified in Committee. He is clearly concerned about our health—especially the health of our children. And he has the right ideas to turn this crisis around! It is our hope that the Senate confirms Kennedy for HHS Secretary,” Amedee said.

So now that Cassidy is at least nominally on board with the RFKJ nomination, which he says is the product of his “very intense conversations” but is a lot more likely to come from the fact that the home folks made it extremely clear he’d pay for killing that nomination, what next?

Next are Kash Patel and Tulsi Gabbard, the two other cabinet nominations pitting the Washington Swamp against the American people, or at least the majority of it which put Trump in office and rates him a positive on job approval. Cassidy can’t really buck Trump on either of those nominations, either – Patel at FBI is seen as the only hope of rebuilding that agency in a way commensurate with its stated mission rather than have it be a tool of the Deep State and the Democrat Party. And Gabbard, as the Director of National Intelligence, would bring a completely fresh outlook toward an intelligence community which is corrupt and lawless and acts on behalf of the globalist elite more than the American people.

Cassidy has done a really good job of identifying himself as part of the Washington Swamp which is being cleared out by this Trump administration. It’s a long road back to perception as a man of the people back home.

In fact, we can’t see him getting there in the next year and change before the GOP primary.

But at least it’s beginning to appear that he’s trying. And whether that earns him re-election or not, at least Louisiana is getting a senator who’s responsive to his constituents…for now.
