If you haven’t seen this clip of CBS News’ report from New Orleans discussing the fact that the Big Easy is still a sanctuary city and stands defiant of both state and federal law, here’s a taste…
"All the other sheriffs are cooperative [with @ICEgov] except for the Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office." CBS News aired a piece tonight on New Orleans' ongoing sanctuary city status, which DA Williams says he expects will continue — despite the law. #lalege @LAGovJeffLandry pic.twitter.com/7jjyBqo0Uh

So the Soros sheriff in Orleans Parish and the Soros DA in Orleans are both saying “Nah, we don’t care that Trump is doing away with sanctuary cities. We’re gonna stay one, and we’ll just wait around for Tren de Aragua to show up and take this place over.”
Essentially, that’s what you have.
There’s an election coming up in New Orleans, and while the field isn’t set, one thing is obvious: the candidate who wins that race is going to be a far-left wacko who wants to continue the sanctuary-city status in New Orleans, and ICE will be refused cooperation on all but the worst examples of illegals who need to be deported.
And the illegals enjoying sanctuary in New Orleans, all 10,000 or so of them (the CBS estimate of 10,000 total non-citizens is almost assuredly low), will continue taking jobs away from the impoverished citizens of New Orleans and depress wages for the locals who do have jobs. Not to mention the crush they’re putting on housing costs in a city where all the lower- and working-class people have been screaming about the lack of availability of low-cost housing.
And because the illegals almost unanimously don’t have insurance and are generally pretty terrible drivers, their effect on insurance rates in New Orleans will continue to be an intensely negative one.
The rich white leftists in Uptown don’t think it’s a problem because they’re getting very reasonable rates from grass-cutters and housekeepers, which is why the common narrative is that “New Orleans is a welcoming place for everyone,” while they police entry into the city’s airtight Mardi Gras social scene harder than the Stasi and Chinese MSS combined.
The state of Louisiana doesn’t have to put up with this.
Liz Murrill needs to put Jason Williams and Susan Hutson on notice that they are in violation of state law and will find themselves in court over it. John Fleming, Louisiana’s Treasurer and a candidate for the Senate next year, needs to put New Orleans on notice that unless they publicly disavow their sanctuary city status there will be no forward movement on the Louisiana State Bond Commission of any funding for Orleans projects. The State Police and Department of Corrections might have to stage a takeover of Orleans Parish Jail in order to see that Hutson is following state and federal law. And Jeff Landry needs to call LaToya Cantrell on the carpet and let her know that New Orleans is risking a pretty complete loss of its local governance because the rest of the state will not tolerate a sanctuary city in its midst.
All of this can and should be done because there is overwhelming public support for squeezing illegals out and restoring law and order where open-borders insanity used to be. And when the Louisiana Democrat Party has decided to turn itself into a legal clinic for illegals, it’s clear that their politicians are badly 0out of touch and defiant to boot.
Consequences must be had. We don’t have to tolerate this, and we shouldn’t.
