GREEN: Loyola University Has Forgotten Free Speech With The Denial Of TPUSA On Campus

Editor’s Note: a guest post by Justin Green, a Turning Point USA alumnus from LSU and current Director of Operations of the Republican Party of Louisiana.

For most parents in America, one of the largest milestones in your child’s life is sending them off to a good college or university. They do this with the hope that their child will get a good education and potentially find themselves, their purpose, or find a sense of belonging. Colleges have been a prominent place for this historically with student-led organizations, clubs, and more; where like-minded students find themselves working together, making new friends, and sharing their beliefs.

Unfortunately, if your kid attends Loyola University in New Orleans, this is just not the case for some students. Now these aren’t the kids who are radical progressive anarchist who seek to abolish private property and institute socialism in America– no these kids are actually granted a club on Loyola’s campus and they go by the name of the Abolitionist Book Club, their club profile is below:

Now if you are as shocked to see this be allowed on campus as I was, then you’ll be even more shocked to find out what Loyola has recently done. Let’s back up a little bit and go into this story a little more.

So, at the University of Loyola, clubs and student organizations are granted charters by the school’s Student Government. Most schools have an administrative body of faculty who decide this but Loyola is different… which leads to many problems like biases and discrimination as most students will have an agenda in some way, especially on college campuses and it seems there is no regulatory oversight from the faculty.

After the tragic assassination of Charlie Kirk, his organization, Turning Point USA, grew dramatically in the United States; with chapters starting all over the country as the martyred activist’s message spread to many young conservatives who wanted to start a chapter of their own. Louisiana was no different, LSU’s well established chapter grew by over 200 members in less than a month and chapters popped up at LA Tech, Southeastern, ULL and more. But for the liberal stronghold of New Orleans, it became more complicated. Three brave young ladies at Loyola University in New Orleans decided to apply for a charter at Loyola, not thinking it would be a problem, considering all the other radical organizations already roaming wild on campus.

They were soon almost unanimously denied by the liberal held Student Government, citing reasons (none of them being true) like “safety of the students” and “dangers to professors” that they had delusionally thought Turning Point would bring to the campus that ironically sits in one of the most dangerous cities in the country; thanks to negligent liberal leadership and defunding the police policies.

This story garnered national attention and even Governor Jeff Landry took note of the chapter’s denial at Loyola.

You would think that the state’s governor throwing his name in the hat of support for Turning Point would hold some sway with the administration at Loyola, but they still decided to hold themselves to their leftist standard: diverse viewpoints are welcome, unless you’re a christian or conservative. This should come as no surprise to those of us who attended college in the last 5 – 10 years, as it’s not uncommon to see furries wearing collars and tails or antifa radicals strolling around campus with masks and a button on their shirt with “they/them” pronouns on it. See, in today’s world it is perfectly acceptable to burn our great American flag, go into the women’s bathroom if you’re a man, or mutilate children in the name of gender acceptance. But God forbid, a group of students who want to advocate for freedom and christianity step foot in the public square.

Back to Loyola – With the help of fellow Loyola conservatives and the national Turning Point organization, the Turning Point hopefuls at Loyola submitted appeals to have their application heard again after more consideration. Now this was probably due to the University administration feeling the pressure (rightfully so). See what is unfortunate about Loyola is the school is run by radical liberals and the Student Government is no different. So, it is my belief and the belief of many others that the Student Government’s minds were made up no matter what anyone could do to convince them. These liberal’s have already been radicalized beyond return and believe their greatest threat is not crime or the state of our current Joe Biden economy, but the MAGA conservatives on the Right, and this includes groups like Turning Point.

The appeal was granted and they had another meeting where the group of students from Turning Point were offered the chance to make a presentation to plead their case to the Loyola Student Government. The Turning Point chapter at Loyola extended an offer to fellow supporters to come and show their support at this meeting which I took up with some friends of mine to go and stand with students who just want a chance to belong on the college campus they or their parents pay thousands of dollars to attend each semester. The meeting was scheduled for this past Wednesday at 6:30 PM and boy were we shocked when we got there to see 100 or so people in the small room and hallway who had gathered to show their support (or disdain) for the Turning Point chapter. Loyola’s student government strategically put this hearing in a room not much larger than a classroom to limit people to gather in support of the young ladies from Turning Point Loyola. Once we arrived we were asked (not politely, I might add) to leave the room immediately, as it was private property and the room had reached its 50 person capacity.

Why did the Student Government not put this nationally recognized meeting in a larger room?

Well the answer seems quite clear. Freedom of speech only belongs to the majority on college campuses and 99% of the time, that majority consists of your social justice warriors who’s weekend plans consist of rioting in the streets or assaulting ICE officers. Now this problem goes way back to the days of Angela Davis and other mid-20th century radicals who figured out that the best way to ruin the American-Capitalist society is to overthrow the institutions that educate this country’s youth. However, that topic will have to be another article as it is way too complicated to discuss in this one.

Then the waiting began outside the meeting room for the decision of the Student Government on this second hearing, why did we have to wait outside in the lobby you might ask? Because the Student Government at Loyola decided to use their parliamentarian authority to call an executive session so they could clear the room entirely of spectators and limit public comment to zero. We waited for about 2 hours in the campus library where the meeting was being held in a small media room. Our wait was accompanied by the stench of weed and body odor as your best and brightest of Loyola hung around us supporters heckling us, cussing at us, and laughing at the death of Charlie Kirk.

The meeting broke and we were informed by the three students who made up Turning Point Loyola’s leadership that they were officially denied a charter in a decision of 7-3. Now I would be lying if I said I was surprised but I was still disappointed and honestly angry at how much insanity had filled one of my state’s universities.

I mean, a student organization that calls for the abolition of the very police that protect them or the private property that gives them a home is well within the bounds of acceptable speech at Loyola, but Turning Point is not? How did we get here and what has college become in America? The short answer is, it has become a cesspool of degeneracy, delusional thought, suicidal empathy, and radical revolution. None of which provides any benefit to anyone that attends these colleges or anything that makes America great.

After the hearing for Turning Point’s potential charter, those of us in support decided to make our way to the nearby chapel on Loyola’s campus. Funny, right? The same university that denies a Christian organization’s right to associate on campus, has a large chapel in the center of campus as it always has with Loyola being a historically Jesuit institution. Incidentally, Loyola’s very own motto is Ad maiorem Dei gloriam, meaning “For the Greater Glory of God”. So, this once Jesuit and Catholic institution has spit on the Christian faith and are in full support of their new motto which I would imagine it to be “Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion” instead.

While we gathered in this chapel, students holding F**K TPUSA signs chanted and yelled horrible and insulting things at us from outside while we gathered to pray for strength and the young ladies who have gone through so much to try and get Turning Point chartered at Loyola. These three students have been ostracized by their peers and faced death threats from other liberal students around the country. Any of us with a conscience find this to be shameful behavior and we condemn it in the strongest terms, but at the same time, these liberal students are gifted the keys to the kingdom at Loyola University in New Orleans.

The fact of the matter is: while Loyola claims to be a private institution that can act outside of the policies which universities like LSU have to follow, they have received over $35 million in taxpayer dollars since 2016 from the state government. Well, since Loyola University wants to deny their student’s First Amendments rights like speech and association, they are no longer eligible to receive state funding and support as this violates federal and state law. Loyola should be cut off from all state funding and support entirely unless they reverse course and reverse it fast.

My prediction is that the progressive administration at Loyola will do no such thing and unless our state government handles business, nothing about this will change. In a just society Loyola will suffer very severe consequences for their actions and the active persecution of their more conservative students. This meeting just happened on Wednesday, so there is still time for this to avoid being swept under the media rug, time will tell what becomes of this rotten university in the blue city of New Orleans.

To the parents and high school students out there, avoid Loyola University in New Orleans at all cost, unless you want to run the risk of a blue-haired radical socialist coming home for the holidays.
