Kavanaugh-esque smear attempted at Trump-endorsed candidate as accuser’s father refutes allegation

(By Matthew Foldi/Substack, reprinted with permission) – Days after President Donald Trump endorsed Louisiana State Sen. Blake Miguez in the race for Louisiana’s 5th District, a local reporter began revisiting a nearly two-decade-old sexual assault allegation made against Miguez by his then-girlfriend. Law enforcement investigated sexual assault claim in 2007 and closed the matter without charges.

But as the story resurfaced, the woman’s own father is now defending Miguez, according to an email that the father sent to Miguez this week.

In a February 24, 2026 email sent directly to Miguez’s district office, the father of the woman who made the 2007 allegation said an Associated Press reporter came to his home attempting to revive the old police report.

The email from the woman’s father reads: “I had a AP reporter come to my home today to discuss a police report filed several years ago. I didn’t read the report the gentleman handed me as I handed it right back to him.”

“The only thing I told him was that you are a good man and you have my vote and everything my daughter has reported about you were lies and she is a liar and has a drug problem,” the father added.“Then I kindly told him to leave and not come back. Not sure why they are digging up this crap but I wanted to give you a heads up.”

“No one in my family including my ex wife, my son and myself will not speak with these people [sic]. You have our 100% support, if you need anything, reach out and we are there for you.”

The Miguez campaign, for its part, said the renewed attention to the allegation reflects political desperation by his opponents. Miguez is running for an open House seat, and he spent years in the state Senate alienating many in Louisiana’s political class by opposing Republican bills that raised taxes and spending.

“Blake’s opponents are recycling a nearly 20-year-old baseless allegation by a then-girlfriend that law enforcement investigated and closed without charges,” his campaign explained. “The 2007 police report shows deputies responded immediately, Blake voluntarily cooperated, the accuser declined to press charges, and the matter ended that night. No charges were ever filed.”

“Blake’s primary opponents reviving a baseless allegation with no new evidence is a sign of political desperation,” Miguez’s campaign added “Political smear tactics like these are typically reserved for the radical left to do against people like Justice Kavanaugh and even President Trump, who endorsed Blake for Congress, which is what this is all about. They know they can’t beat Blake with the truth, so they’re trying to destroy him with lies. Voters in Louisiana’s 5th District deserve better than lazy smear tactics from the Baton Rouge swamp creatures.”

The allegation against Miguez stems from a 2007 police report involving his then-girlfriend. According to contemporaneous law enforcement documentation, deputies responded the night the report was made, Miguez voluntarily cooperated with investigators and the woman declined to press charges. No criminal charges were ever filed.

Court records show that the woman who made the 2007 allegation has had repeated encounters with the legal system over the past 15 years, including arrests and criminal charges as recently as last November.

Civil court dockets reflect that Miguez was one of five men she had accused of misconduct over the years. All of those accusations against the five men were ultimately dismissed or dropped.

According to parish court databases and publicly available booking records, the individual was charged in 2010 in Iberia Parish with misdemeanor hit and run. Court records show the charge was later dismissed. From 2014 to 2017, she was booked and formally charged in Lafayette Parish with unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling, classified as a felony under Louisiana law. Records reflect repeated failures to appear and eventual dismissal of the case in 2017.

In 2023, the individual was arrested in Iberia Parish on a misdemeanor charge of child desertion. Court records list the matter as pending. Last year, she was arrested in Vermilion Parish following a traffic stop during which methamphetamine and marijuana were reportedly found in the vehicle. Possession of methamphetamine is classified as a felony under Louisiana law.

Several months later, she was booked in Vermilion Parish on multiple charges including possession of methamphetamine, a felony; possession of marijuana, a misdemeanor; possession of Adderall without a prescription, a felony controlled substance offense; taking contraband to or from a penal institution, a felony; and simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling, a felony, according to publicly available booking records.

The AP reporter’s visit to the woman’s father occurred February 21, just days after Trump’s endorsement of Miguez. Campaign officials argue the sequence of events is not accidental.

“Shame on Blake’s political opponents for dragging a private citizen back into the spotlight and attempting to weaponize a nearly 20-year-old allegation that law enforcement investigated and closed at the time,” one said. “Even her own father has put in writing that he believes the accusation was false and that his family stands with Blake. Relitigating a matter that was investigated and closed nearly two decades ago is not just desperate. It is shameful.”

President Trump announced his endorsement of Miguez earlier this month, writing that it is his “Great Honor to endorse MAGA Warrior, Blake Miguez, who is running to represent the tremendous people of Louisiana’s 5th Congressional District. A Seventh Generation Louisianian, and very popular State Senator, Blake has dedicated his life to serving his Community. As your next Congressman, Blake will work tirelessly to Champion our Amazing Farmers and Ranchers, Grow our Economy, Cut Taxes and Regulations, Promote MADE IN THE U.S.A., Unleash American Energy DOMINANCE, Keep our Border SECURE, Stop Migrant Crime, Ensure LAW AND ORDER, Support our Brave Military, Veterans, and Law Enforcement, Advance Election Integrity, and Protect our always under siege Second Amendment. Blake Miguez has my Complete and Total Endorsement to be the next Representative from Louisiana’s 5th Congressional District. HE WILL NOT LET YOU DOWN!”
