BAYHAM: Yes, The World Really, Really Likes Us

Weeks away from celebrating America’s 250th birthday, the United States is the center of the world’s attention and not due to politics.

The World Cup, the sporting mega-event that draws interest from every corner of the globe, is being played across these United States and in a few locales in Mexico and Canada.
But because the media tries to poison any sense of joy related to anything that occurs in Donald Trump’s America, the advent of the World Cup’s return to the prosperous shores of the US (one of the few venues where the tournament made a sizable profit) was being panned as a disaster before the teams even took the pitch.
Hysteria over ICE raids (laughable since foreign attendees likely flew in through airports with immigration checkpoints in lieu of arriving via coyote or tunnel). Sky-high ticket prices (that’s on FIFA not Trump). Urban violence (take it up with the Democrats who run every major city in America).
But what have we seen beyond the spoon-fed rigged media narrative?
International visitors are posting their own dispatches via social media sharing their own experience showing a much more positive story.
And it’s been nothing but love for America and all things American.
One Swedish tourist gushed about how inviting and friendly Americans are, a major cultural difference between the US and the Nordic region. It should be noted that people from Scandinavia aren’t rude nor are they cold but are generally reserved culturally but become warm and engaging when the mood strikes.
A German soccer fan Freddy was recently feted by the New Orleans Saints organization at the Airline Drive practice facility.
And the double-decker orange Dutch bus pulled up to take in that Texas tourist haj of visiting Buc-ee’s.
Viral British tourists Josh and Jace spent many a happy day taking in all things America but seemed to truly revel in their time in Louisiana, from the bayous to the stately oaks of LSU.
And while it’s not certain how long the national team will stick around in the tournament, the Scottish fans in Boston are living their best lives, holding bagpipe -led parades and taking over Fenway Park for a baseball game after they prevailed over Haiti in the first match.
Don’t buy into the media misery merchants. The world truly loves America- and they’re especially enchanted by our differences.
Let’s hope the enthusiasm for America from our visitors can rub off on some of our countrymen who can’t get out of the way their own politics.
